Workshop - Trustworthiness of AI

systems and it's impact on society

in developing nations

ONLINE WORKSHOP

A two-day intense online workshop with distinguished talks and tutorials.

The workshop is focused on Trustworthiness of AI/ML systems, especially it's concepts, the mechanisms to evaluate, corresponding social implications, and the potential impact such systems can have in developing nations.

DAY 1

Tutorial on Trustworthiness of AI/ML systems

Fairness and Bias in AI systems

Explainability of AI systems

Robo-ethics

Keynote Talk

DAY 2

Fairness and Interpretability

Calibration of ML systems

AI and Health

AI and Skills development

AI and Governance

Topics include various trustworthiness aspects of AI/ML systems such as :

• Fairness

• Bias

• Explainability

• Transparency

• Interpretability

• Accountability

• Security

• Privacy

• Safety

• Robustness

• Validation

• Reliability

• Adversarial attacks

• Ethics

• Societal aspects

As AI systems are being developed and rolled out in various societies across the world the trustworthiness of such systems needs to be determined. The focus of this workshop will be to discuss the trustworthiness aspects of AI systems and the effect that it can have on the societies of developing nations. For example, consider Google’s Machine Learning system for detecting diabetic retinopathy and its beta-testing in an Indian hospital (https://about.google/stories/seeingpotential/, https://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/google-verily-using-ai-screen-diabetic-retinopathy-india). Such a system can potentially have varied impacts – on health-care monitoring and delivery, on data analytics and policy formulation, the associated behavioral changes in society. The workshop will focus on mechanisms to evaluate the trustworthiness of AI/ML systems, their acceptance, and the potential impact such systems can have on society in developing nations.

The questions that this workshop will address are: Are AI systems trustworthy? How can trustworthiness be evaluated? Can the AI system’s trustworthiness affect basic human conditions in developing nations? What are the ethical concerns and the effect on society? The workshop will focus on some of the technological challenges, societal challenges, and acceptance challenges of AI systems faced by developing nations.

Some of the focus areas are:

a) AI and Health: Health management needs AI-based optimal, trustable, and effective solutions;

b) AI and Skills development: High-quality skills development using AI systems and solutions;

c) AI and Governance: Exploring AI for governance to deliver effective citizen services.

Top-level international and Indian scientists will give deep technical talks and tutorials in this workshop. The workshop is targeted towards researchers, engineers, and developers of AI systems and those who are interested in the impact of AI systems and their related trustworthiness concerns.
