...Preschool Happenings...

Happy New Year! With the Winter weather really ramping up out there, and boy do we love playing in it! When we aren't outside, we have been staying warm in our Preschool building learning and growing! We are looking forward to starting our ZooPhonics curriculum this week and are excited to practice writing our names and identifying the letters in our names. We will also be introducing a new traveling class book project. Keep an eye open for this fun winter project.

Some of the concepts and projects we have been working on:

  • Some of the fun books we read at school included: Footprints in the Snow, Snowmen All Year,There's an Alligator Under My Bed, Share Bear Share, and Baby Beluga.
  • We created some fun mittens using Shaving cream and paint. First we mixed up shaving cream and paint. Then, we dipped some mitten shapes into the paint and let them rest for a bit. We scraped off the shaving cream and it was pretty cool to see the marble coloring that was left on the mittens! We added strings using words to describe length - long / short. These cool works of art are hanging up in our room. Come check them out during Preschool Inquiry Night on Thursday the 16th!
  • We used liquid watercolors along with ice and salt to explore what happens when we put salt on ice. It was fun to use our senses listening to the ice crack and melt. The liquid watercolors that we dripped on really looked neat when we dripped them onto the ice. Check out pictures of this activity on our Homeroom page.
  • Songs and Prayers, Chants and Rhymes including: The Trinity Song, If You're Happy and You Know It, Twinkle Twinkle, The Chubby Little Snowman, Snowflake Snowflake, 5 Little Snowmen, Baby Beluga, This Old Man

  • Sensory Bins: Your kiddos have been working hard to strengthen those hand muscles! This will all come in handy as they continue to form letters and shapes, color, and cut! We did some science and had a great time playing in some squishy, bouncy, and slippery Water Beads. We look forward to also playing in a snow dough bin this week!
  • We look forward to visiting Mrs. Kuzma in the library this week for songs, rhymes, and of course some fun books!
  • We have had fun exploring Pattern Blocks and pictures that we can build with them.
  • Cutting! We are practicing with some fun activities utilizing scissors and stickers. We have also been having fun cutting play doh.
  • Pinching and Sorting by color, number, shape
  • We look forward to exploring the Atrium again this week in the "big school." This is a quiet space that allows God to speak to us in the quiet of our hearts. Thank you for having us Mrs. Tietema!

Notes and Important Information

Please continue to send in boots, snow pants, warm coats, mittens or gloves and a hat to Preschool/Childcare each day! We go outside as long as conditions are safe and above 0! Please also be sure to label all items sent in! When we have 11 sets of things in the cubby room, they can get mixed up and it's very helpful if we know who to return them to!

Have a Blessed weekend!
