There are special actions that can be done based on our personnel.
These actions are defined by roles assigned to individual players.
Players may have more than one specifically assigned special role within the offense, or none at all.
There may be players with the same defined roles on the court at the same time.
Role definition may change based on the flow of the game or scouting reports.
The actions resulting from defined roles are in addition to our basic offensive rules from each spot on the court.
If #4 (or any other player on the court) is the designated pick and roll player, ball screens can be set in a variety of ways:
Random running ball screens can be set at any time anywhere on the court.
Designated players can initiate a "follow" ball screen with a pass.
Players can be designated as cut and seal guys.
They can seal in the post off a cut from any spot in the floor in any situation.
Please see our Post Play Section for more information.
A hunter is someone who can screen for the dunker.
A hunter might be someone who is also designated as a cut and seal guy.
A hunter can also be a good shooter who, after the hunter screen, receives a pin screen from the corner for a shot (Atlanta action).
If there is a good shooter in the corner, we can designate him to receive double staggered screens on the loaded side.
