I am Professor of Economics at the University of Munich. I am also Director of the Center for Labor and Demographic Economics at the ifo Institute. I previously was a faculty member in the School of Economics and Finance at the University of St. Andrews. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Essex in 2005.
My research interests are in applied microeconomics. Much of my research focuses on issues in family economics and labor economics. Several of my studies deal with intra-household decision making and conflict within families. Other studies of mine examine the impact of various policy reforms on child and family outcomes.
My professional experience also includes policy advisory work. Between 2015 and 2017, I served on an expert commission appointed by the German Federal Government to draft the Second Gender Equality Report. Next to this, I was involved in several policy evaluations for ministries in Germany.
