Bridging Generations at Hansen Family Hospital

From 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM - 2nd and 4th Wednesday of Every Month Beginning Wed., April 22nd

Bringing High Schoolers and Community Members together to socialize, play games, color, and get to know one another.

Located in Hansen Family Hospital Cafeteria 

In order to participate, students must be in good academic standing with no Cadet Time appointments for the day. 

Freshmen and Sophomores will need to be called out of Cadet Time by their parent/guardian for this activity, 

and this will be coded as an excused absence so they can still participate in evening activities.

Potty Press Editor

The “Potty Press" is a one-page, twice-monthly newsletter posted in restroom stalls to provide students, staff, and guests with quick accessible information about school events & opportunities within our Cadet Community. Because it reaches the audience during a natural pause in their day, it serves as an effective way to reinforce communication, celebrate our school, and promote a positive school culture. Historical Video Transcriber Needed

The Iowa Falls Historical Society is looking for an individual interested in transcribing/ creating closed captioning for some older historical videos in their possession. If you are interested in helping with this, please email ahutchinson@ifacadets.net

 Writing Book Reviews

If you love reading, this opportunity is for you. We need students to check out and review books from The Nook to help hype up the awesome books we have. You can submit your short video or written reviews to our district librarian, Lisa Littschwager at lliittschwager@ifacadets.net

Book Selection Committee

If you are interested in becoming a member of the book selection committee for our school library, please email Lisa Littschwager at lliittschwager@ifacadets.net  This committee will include a few students and some teachers, and it will typically meet during Cadet Time.

Dillon Tree Farm

Dillon Tree Farm between Alden and Iowa Falls is looking for some good seasonal help with their outdoor work (shaking and netting trees, helping folks cut down a tree if they can’t, directing people where to go, etc.). Care Initiatives Hospice

Care Initiatives Hospice is looking for students 13 years old or older to help with their hospice patients in Scenic Manor who would benefit from a volunteer. This opportunity is extremely flexible and can be as much or as little a time commitment as the volunteer desires. This volunteer opportunity is primarily for companionship/socialization.

Hospice is a service that is provided to patients who are considered to be at the end of life. This means they have a diagnosis with a life expectancy of 6 months or less; however, some hospice patients go on to live for years or even end up “graduating” from hospice due to an improvement in their condition. Hospice provides an additional level of support for patients that may include visits from nurses, social workers, spiritual counselors, music therapists, massage therapists, and volunteers. The interdisciplinary team provides compassionate care for those in their final stages of life and addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those facing life-limiting illness for themselves and their families.

Alden E-Squad Looking for New Members

Alden Food Pantry

The Alden Food Pantry (located at 211 Main Street in Alden) has volunteer opportunities available for students. They are looking for students to work on Fridays from 4:00-6:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Please contact one of the following people if you are interested:

Alden Public Library - Children's Programs

• Alden Public Library would love help with their children's programs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 or on Wednesdays for Story Time for ages 0-5 from 10-11.  They need volunteers who will interact with the children and help with crafts, etc.

Thrift Store Workers

Please consider volunteering for a Saturday shift. It is a busy and fun place to spend three hours. 

The volunteer hours are: 9:45-1:00 or 1:00-4:00.

If you love animals, the Greenbelt Humane Society in Iowa Falls is looking for volunteers.

OTHER IDEAS FOR SERVICE

Silver Cord hours can be earned by providing a service or meeting a need for an agency, mission field, church, school, charity program, or community event.

Here are a few examples of service accepted for Silver Cord hours:  

• Serving at church or community events

• Mentoring elementary age students

• Assisting with camps

• Operating the scoreboard or taking stats at a game

• Working at school concession stands

• Working at Cadet Bunker - Cadet Store

• Helping at nursing homes

• Serving on mission trips

• Assisting with Parks & Rec or other youth sports activities

• Volunteering in conjunction with Chamber Main Street

These activities will NOT be accepted for Silver Cord hours:

• Favors done for friends or family members

• Work done for compensation
