How do I submit my hours?
Students can submit their hours by clicking on this SUBMISSION FORM LINK or accessing the Submission Form Page on this website.
How do you earn Silver Cord Honors?
In order to receive a Silver Cord Honors, a student must volunteer 100 hours or more in a variety of settings.
When can I join this program?
Students are eligible to participate in Silver Cord during the summer following their 8th grade year.
Do I need to complete a certain number of volunteer hours per year?
The only requirement is that at least 4 of the 100 hours are completed during a student's senior year.
Can I log hours during the school day?
No, hours must be logged outside of the school day.
How do I keep track of my hours that I've submitted?
Once hours are approved, students will receive an email update on their progress from our program coordinator.
Can I earn all of my 100 hours volunteering in one area?
No, students must volunteer in at least three different areas to experience a variety of opportunities. A maximum of 60 hours can be logged for any one activity.
Do all my volunteer hours need to be completed in our local communities?
50% or more of students' hours must be completed in local communities. However, students are encouraged to participate in mission trips and global volunteering experiences as well.
How soon do I need to turn in my hours after completing them?
Students must complete and submit their submission form within 30 days of their volunteer service unless approved by the program coordinator.
By what date do the hours need to be completed?
All students must have completed the required number of approved and documented volunteer service hours by May 1st of their senior year.
Can I earn hours for working at fundraising events for my team or club?
Silver Cord hours cannot be earned for group fundraising events where participation is required.
Can I log hours for being a manager for a high school team?
No, managing a team is seen as participating with the team. Since you can letter in the sport you manage, this does not count as volunteering. (As of 9/1/23)
What is a silver cord?
A silver cord is exactly what it sounds like. It is a silver honor cord with tassels on each end. A student wears this draped over his/her graduation robe. Wearing this signifies that the student has volunteered 100 hours or more.
