Information Sheet for Language Assistants

OUR LANGUAGE ASSISTANTS SO FAR ...

DAVID BISSEMBER

NEW YORK - USA

2008-2009

Greetings! My name is David Bissember and I am from New York, USA. This year I will be working at Santos Isasa School in Montoro, Córdoba as an English language assistant. I recently graduated from Siena College in Loudonville, New York with a bachelor's degree in Spanish, a minor in Political Science, and I also received an International Business Certificate. I love the way the Spanish language sounds, which is why I decided to come to Cordoba for the year. I believe that the exchange of cultures and language is very important in every society, and I hope to gain as much from my experience here in Spain as I plan to share of my own language and culture.

Currently, I am working as a Spanish teacher in a private school in Rhode Island

ALBERT ZDANCEWICK

POLAND

2008-2009

Hi, my name is Albert and I come from Poland. I'm a student-participant of SOCRATES-ERASMUS program. Erasmus program is European international students exchange program which allows studying abroad for one year. Normally in Poland I'm studying at Technical University of Bialystok and thanks to this program I was able to come to Spain and study at Universidad de Córdoba. Anyone who is eager to travel and loves meeting new people and getting to know different cultures, Erasmus program is the best thing he could imagine!

My studies specialization is Electronics and Telecommunications. Basically it's about modern science like computers, mobile phones, high frequency devices... in one word it's physics. By coming to Spain I'm hoping to get to know Spanish culture, habits and of course the language. Thanks to working in a bilingual school, I'm hoping to increase my experience in getting to know all of those things.

HELEN RICHARDS

UNITED KINGDOM

2012-2013

Hi, my name is Helen and I'm from London, England where I live with my two sisters and my parents. During term time, however, I live in the city of Leeds in the north of England, where I am currently a student of Spanish at the University of Leeds. As well as my love for language I have many other interests too. I love films, dancing, and even play the cello which not many people expect.

As part of my university studies I spent a year in Montoro as the English assistant in 2012/13. I had the most incredible year which I will never forget. The 8 months went so fast I can hardly believe it, but I can't be more grateful to have found myself in such a lovely school with such welcoming staff and students! I managed to get involved in some great activities like Halloween, Poetry readings, and even a trip to Andújar, but of course all that mixed with a lot of hard work. I was continuously impressed by the levels of English which I heard! Living in a city as beautiful as Cordoba was also fantastic, and very different to London in a lot of ways (probably the weather most of all!). I managed to travel around different parts of Spain during the year too which I'm very grateful for. I've left with some amazing memories, and am sure to be making regular visits in the future!

2021-2022

Hi, my name is Sam Campbell. I am 29 years old from Portland, Maine, USA. I have been at I.E.S Santos Isasa for about one month now, and I love teaching here. I have been enjoying getting to know the students and helping with their English, as well as their art, math, geography, history, and science! I have found the students to all be wonderful!

A little bit about me: I have been teaching English as a second language for about four years. Before moving to Montoro, I was an English conversation teacher in Thailand and South Korea. I love learning about new cultures and trying new things. My Spanish is not very good, but I study every day, and I hope to learn quickly! When I am not teaching, I can probably be found exploring the area, at a restaurant trying new food, or in a park reading a book.

If you see me around town, please say hello! I would love a chance to practice my Spanish, but please be patient because I am still learning.

KARA ROWLEY

Hello, my name is Kara Rowley. I’m from Portland, Maine in the United States. I’ve been living in Montoro for five months now and I am really enjoying it! For the first few months of living here, I taught at CEIP Nuestra Señora del Rosario. I've been enjoying teaching and getting to know the students at both schools.

Before moving to Montoro, I worked in agriculture in Maine. Then, after university, I taught in South Korea for two years. I enjoy learning, traveling, hiking, and cooking. I look forward to the rest of the school year and can’t wait to see the progress each student makes.
