Estonia: Education for the XXI century

Chronicle of an intense week immersed in Pärnu's Kuninga Tänava Põhikool  [CH]

Twelve students from Santiago de Compostela's Rosalía de Castro High School, with the help of their Estonian colleagues from Kuninga Street School, describe their hands on experience in the learning dynamics and talk to Estonia's Minister of Education, Kristina Kallas, to members of the school community and to local authorities in order to get an in-depth view of the keys to the success of the country's well known educational system

“Happy students have better results”

Estonia´s new Minister of Education and Research, Kristina Kallas, emphasizes the importance of an all inclusive education where students can reach their goals with the close help of their teachers  [ME]

“If students are motivated, they are successful”

Pärnu´s Education Counselor, Jana Ruubel, describes the town´s efforts to include all their educational resources in the school schedule in order to motivate students to learn more dynamically  [LA]

“Teamwork is essential in our school”

Liina Õmblus, vice-principal at Pärnu Kuninga Tänava Põhikool, highlights the importance of collaborative work among teachers, students and families [SA]

“Teachers are a key factor to achieve good results”

Maie Kitsing, Former Head of Education of the Estonian Ministry of Education underlines the importance of well trained and motivated teachers [ME]

“It is not easy to find and retain new teachers”

Reene Tammearu and Kadri Anari, teachers at Kuninga Tänava Põhikool, emphasize the need to attract a new generation of teachers [TE]

“This school really helps not only children with special needs, but also the families of those kids with needs”

Tiina Kesküla, mother of three children and president of the school council at Kuninga School, analyzes her kids' experience as pupils in Pärnu        [FT]
