The Past Simple

Take a look at this sentence 👉"I looked at you"

Can you see what's added to the verb? - Yessss! the -ed

But, take a look and tell what happened to these verbs:

 1. I washed my car. (That's usual)

 2. They studied for the exam. (What happened to the -y from "study"???)

 3. We plaYed soccer. (with a vowel before, the -y survives: "stayed", "enjoyed", etc...)

 4. I changEd my mind. (We've got an -e, we only need the -d)

 5. We planned a day out.  (verb ending in consonant + vowel + consonant = another consonant for free)

All these verbs are REGULAR, they follow the general rule: adding -ed.

But the rule doesn't always work...

MANY VERBS are IRREGULAR VERBS and each one does the past simple on its own way. How to know ---- STUDY THEM and practice.

Now, FIND the verb and TRY TO TELL which verb is the past simple coming from in the following sentences:

        2. I broke a window yesterday.

        3. They understood my mistake.

        4. I cut a piece of paper.

        5. The party began at 7'00.
