On the 27th of April, María Sanz Casares, who is a teacher from the University of Valladolid, visited our high school to lecture our students (Year 4 of CSE and Year 1 of PCSE) on Oscar Wilde.
She is an expert on the matter since she carried out her postgraduate studies on the life and works of the Irish author. Then, thanks to her, our students could get a glimpse of the universe of Wilde and, more especifically, his short stories. All the hardships he endured during his life, shaped the persona that Wilde became and by reading his short stories we can learn lots of aspects of life as well as learning and experiencing a different perspective of life.
Our students had the opportunity to discuss the life and the works they are reading this year: The Portrait of Dorian Gray and some of his short stories like The Nightingale and the Rose or The Happy Prince.
Surely, this experience allowed them to get closer to the author and it was a shift in their understanding of literature.
Spring is here and so...let's celebrate it together. For that reason we encourage you to look for a spring picture and write a short story. The rules to participate in the contest are described below:
Your story should be geared towards students in IES Galileo.
Draw or find a photo to inspire your story.
All drawings or photos should be appropriate and in no way be derogatory towards any faith, race, sexual orientation, gender, etc.
The number of maximum words are:
1st Category: 1st Year and 2nd Year: 120-150 words.
2nd Category: 3rd Year and 4th Year: 150-180 words.
3rd Category: 1st Year Bachillerato/ 2nd Year Bachillerato and FP: 180-250 words.
4th Category: Teachers and any member of the staff: 180-250 words.
Your title is not included in the word count.
Your drawing or photo should be the only visual with your story.
The Spring writing contest officially begins on 1st of April 2022.
From the 1st until the 27th of April send your story on a Word Document to the email address galidiomas@iesgalileo.es, which must also include the photo or drawing that inspired you.
Deadline for sending your story is on the 27th of April 2022.
Only one submission per contestant is permitted. If you use a pen-name, you cannot submit another story using your real name.
All stories will be posted on this website and on the website of the school library.
1st place for every category: 20€ voucher to spend at Eurobook.
Special mention award from all the stories: 10€ voucher to spend at Etiam.
