The following section describes the activities carried out during the project, as well as the learning outcomes of the project Green Energy at School: Nutrition and Sustainability in Action.
ACTIVITY 1: Understanding Energy Consumption in School Buildings
Methods and approaches:
Participants will attend a guided session by an expert who will explain how to measure and evaluate the energy consumption of a school building. The session will include an introduction to key concepts. Students will observe the process and take notes, later sharing their reflections in small groups.
Learning outcomes:
Understand the basic concepts of how energy consumption in buildings is measured.
Learn about the key factors that affect energy efficiency in schools.
Raise awareness of sustainable energy use and its impact on daily life.
Methods and approaches:
Students will work in small international teams to prepare a meal, taking into account sustainability principles. They will also reflect on issues such as food waste, local versus imported products, and the energy required for food production.
Learning outcomes:
Develop an understanding of sustainable food practices and their environmental impact.
Improve teamwork and communication skills in an international environment.
Enhance fluency in English while debating and presenting ideas on sustainable food consumption.
Methods and approaches:
Participants will observe lessons at the host school to understand how the German educational system works. They will take notes on aspects such as teaching methods, student participation, and assessment processes. After the observations, they will work in groups to discuss the differences and similarities with their own system and reflect on good practices that could be adapted to their schools.
Learning outcomes:
Understand the key differences in teaching methods and assessment within the German educational system.
Strengthen critical thinking and comparative analysis by reflecting on different educational models.
Reinforce English language skills through discussions and reflections on pedagogical practices.
Methods and approaches:
Participants will visit historical and cultural sites in Germany. During these visits, they will observe and discuss how sustainability measures are applied in different areas, such as public transport, energy-efficient buildings, and waste management. They will document their observations.
Learning outcomes:
Gain knowledge of German cultural and historical heritage.
Identify and reflect on sustainability initiatives in urban environments.
Improve intercultural communication by working with peers from different backgrounds.
Enhance critical thinking and observation skills through the analysis of real-life sustainability examples
