Their habitat is located in South America, more specifically, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay.
They live in open regions, such as fields and scrub forests. It occurs in some regions of transition to the Caatinga and Atlantic Forest, being found mainly in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraná.
The Guara Wolf specie is endangered because of pedestrian accidents, hunting and diseases caused by domestic dogs and the destruction of their habitat to expand agriculture.
ICUN doesn't consider this specie as endangered, but the people think that the Guara Wolf are taking some risks of extinction. There are approximately 21 thousand adults left, and this number may have dropped. In Rio Grande do Sul it is believed that they are already extinct.
It is a mammal that likes to eat animals and small fruits. It has an orange fur and black eyes. They're the biggest canine in South America, reaching 20 to 30kg. The puppies have a different color up to approximately 6 months. They are born black, with the white tail, and acquire brown color in the first month of life. Males and females can pair and divide a territory, however they do not usually share their activities, such as hunting.
The zoos may take care of this species. Because then they will have food and water, a new habitat and it can be safe. There is a group called "Amigo do Lobo" that is trying to preserve the species. So, help them if you want!
