A few words from Rich
Hello, and thanks for taking a look at Carrot! Here is a little bit about me (Rich Chapple), creator of the series. Following a failed attempt to “make it” as a bass player some time ago, I focused my efforts on animation, which essentially combines all the things I love to do (writing, visual art, music, squashing, stretching, etc.). Since then, I’ve written and directed hundreds of animated videos for happy clients ranging from Disney and Comedy Central, to Boeing and Goldman Sachs; and developed dozens of original concepts. Here are a few highlights:
Battleworld Season 2: Treachery at Twilight (Client: Disney/Marvel/Funko)
We aimed to push the humor and surrealism in the second season of this series, during which I developed a fun/productive creative chemistry/process with Carrot’s talented lead storyboard artist, Jamie Sardo.
Waco Valley (Client: Above Average Productions/Comedy Central Originals)
Working with creator Ben Warheit, I furiously late-night animated this series, which features a great performance by Jim Santangeli, who plays The Boss in Carrot.
Eel & Chicken are Bored (Original content)
This short was originally developed as a pitch for Above Average, and features a character I still love: The Special Man who Lives in the Hallway Closet and grants weekly adventures using his “Fate Selector”.
Podtoons (Client: Above Average Productions/Comedy Central Originals)
Working with the hilarious team at Left Handed Radio, I designed and animated these six episodes. I still think about Mr. Hastings, the Unhealthiest Man in the World, from time to time.
DevSecOps (Client: Mimecast)
Building on very funny scripts from the Mimecast team, we’ve developed dozens of animations in this Archer-inspired style.
Amaze High School (Client: Advocates for Youth)
I always enjoy working for a cause I can get behind. We pushed our budget as far as we could for these fun and important shorts, which continue to generate very robust conversation on youtube and in classrooms around the world.
Justin Time (Original content)
Developed for the Channel 101 monthly film program, this was the first original series I created. The humor, and especially the animation, are crude, but fun (I think).
Corporate work (various clients)
I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients, as it’s given me the opportunity to learn and write about everything from cloud computing, to medical procedures, to installing an off-shore oil rig.
