In the back of my room there will be a binder. If a student is not following any of the above class expectations I will simply say "binder." They will then go to the binder in the back, write their name, initial, and then return to their seat. Below are to steps take for each initial.
1st Initial: This is a warning. As long as the student follows class expectations there are no further consequences.
2nd Initial: Student fills out a “Refocus Form,” which is pictured to the right, and will meet with me at the end of class to discuss behavior and how it does not meet class expectations. This form will be kept and if needed a copy will be sent to their parent/guardian. If a student does not disrupt the class further, there are no other consequences.
Third Initial: I or the student will call/email the parent explaining the disruption in class and determine what the best course of action to correct behavior. This can range from a seat change, finding a different place to work when it is individual work time, or any other method to help the student follow class expectations so they and their classmates can focus on accomplishing the tasks in class.
Fourth Initial: I will schedule a meeting with the principal, student, and myself to discuss the next course of action to help correct student behavior.
On Monday, each and every student starts with a clean slate.
Entry – After I greet you before class, you need to grab the supplies you will need for the day as posted on the board. Then you will begin the bellringer on the board.
Supplies - Outside the classroom there is a whiteboard that will indicate what supplies are needed for class that day. Students will need to grab those supplies from their backpack since backpacks need to be left in their locker or in the hallway.
Bellringer - Each day there will be a prompt on the board that the students will have 5 minutes to complete. If I do not see a student attempting the bellringer I will make a tally in my gradebook. After two weeks the bellringers are turned in, and graded. For each tally mark I will deduct that many points from their bellringer. Bellringer will be collected every two weeks
Addressing the Class - Whether I, the teacher, or a student is addressing the class, we will stand and make sure that we are addressing all classmates. Audience members will need to turn and face whoever is talking.
Exit – Mr. Luthman dismisses the class, not the bell. You will be given a two-minute warning to clean up your belongings and check the floor. Once you are dismissed, check to make sure you have all your belongings and quietly exit the classroom.
Bathroom – Bathroom breaks are only allowed after the class has been released to do work. This excludes the first 10 and last 10 min of class. Only one person may go at a time. If the block is green, you may go. You must put your name and time leaving when you go in the logbook and flip the block to red. When you return, flip the block to green and put the time you returned in the logbook.
Getting out of your seat – At no time should you leave your seat when someone is addressing the class. Wait until the class has been released for class work.
Sharpening pencil – Your pencils should be sharpened before class starts. You may sharpen your pencil as you enter the room. If you need to sharpen a pencil during class, do so after the class has been released to do individual or work.
Handing in homework –Homework will be turned into the proper class period basket by the end of the day. If it is not turned in by the end of the school day, it will be considered late.
Passing back graded work – One student will be assigned to hand back work as marked on the bellringer, based on their computer number. That student is exempt from the bellringer that day, but must write “handed back papers” in the space on their bellringer.
Tardy – You are to quietly enter the room, put your tardy note on Mr. Luthman’s desk then follow normal entry procedures.
Fire drills – We stay together as a class and move silently in the halls as well as outside.
Lockdown drills – Close the blinds, turn off the lights, and remain quiet.
