I moved to Idaho from California in 2001. I like to consider my self an Idahoan and disregard the time I lived in California. I love living in Idaho and have no intention of living any where else. I have been teaching since 2015. I will explain more about that later. I moved to Nampa in 2001 where I started attending Sunny Ridge Elementary. South Middle school is where I spent 7th and 8th grade and then attended Skyview High School and graduated in 2007. The next step of my life had me going to Northwest Nazarene University where I started majoring in pre-vet science. During my studies I had the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica for a semester. That is where I fell in love with ecology and decided I did not want to be a vet, but pursue a career in the scientific field.
While studying ecology at NNU, I had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica to conduct research as well as Bolivia. All of my research was looking at a fungus and how it affects amphibians specifically frogs.
After college I had a few wildlife biology jobs, did environmental education programs at Deer Flat NWR, and did research on alfalfa plants. In addition to those jobs I had the opportunity to work in a community center attached to an elementary school in Boise. That is where teaching had begun to work its way into my idea of a career.
I am happily married and am a proud father of two lovely children; Finnley(5) and Macklan(3). My wife, Hannah, and I enjoy camping, taking our kids on hikes and spending time with our 8 nieces and nephews.
It wasn't until a few years after college that I decided to join the teaching world. Instead of going back to school I decided to go through the ABCTE program to get certified to teach. Throughout college I always enjoyed working with younger students coming to the campus and teaching them about amphibians. The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea of being able to spark that sense of curiosity in a classroom setting. I then applied for a job at IACS where I was a TA for the middle and high school science teachers. The following year, due to restructuring of the middle school, I was given the opportunity to teach middle school science. Since then I have been teaching a variety of classes all centered around science. My hope as a teacher is that no matter the content my students develop a desire to be curious, ask questions, and think about the world around them. Whether you are examining a weed growing in the crack of sidewalk to wondering why one side of a mountain is greener than the other, my hope is that every student begins to questions and wonder about what processes are going on in those situations.
