Advisors

D. Buchner

I have been teaching technology & engineering for 34 years, 31 years at DeWitt Middle School. I joined TSA when I started teaching at DeWitt in 1991. I enjoy being part of TSA because it gives me the opportunity to be part of some very exciting projects and to work with students outside the school day. Our DeWitt TSA team has traveled all over the country competing at the National TSA conference since 1997 and winning many awards. TSA is fun, exiting and hands-on. TSA is a great place to learn about the human made world, designing, building and working together to solve problems and prepare for tomorrow's ever changing world.

This is my second year as an advisor for TSA. I teach Technology 7, Technology 8, and Digital Literacy 6. I like being involved with TSA because I get to work with students outside of my regular classes on challenging but fun projects. I also refuse to hug Jeffrey, until he graduates High School.

A. Cullen

I have been helping with TSA for 2 years. I started in 2018. Prior to 2018 I helped out in behind-the-scenes ways by helping students prepare for speeches and offering suggestions on projects.

I teach Family Consumer Science.

My involvement with TSA began for a few reasons:

1. I wanted to play an active role in helping more girls join TSA. It was my hope that if girls saw a female advisor they would feel more comfortable joining TSA.

2. I enjoy working with Mr. Buchner. I had helped out with TSA a few years before becoming an advisor. His passion for TSA is infectious.

3. Being an advisor with TSA enabled me to have more of a mentoring role with the students who join. I feel TSA is beneficial for any student who wants to grow their leadership, collaboration, entrepreneurship, or technical skills.

B. Walters

Depending on how it’s calculated, I have been involved for 27 to 34 years.

Started my Tech Club probably in '86. Learned about TSA a few years later and that Tech Club evolved into TSA. That may have been around 1990. Ended my TSA advisor role when I retired in 2017. Since then I have continued to be involved on the national level. Currently I am program coordinator for the Junior Solar Sprint event.

For the last 32 years of my career, I taught technology and engineering, at the middle school level. I also taught a diversity of courses at the high school and college level.

Being part of TSA provides a positive, life influencing experience for kids in so many ways.
