The Approaches to Learning (ATL) in the MYP are skills that students develop to become effective learners. These skills are divided into five broad categories:
Communication Skills
Purpose: To enhance students' ability to interact and express ideas clearly and confidently.
Examples: Listening actively, presenting ideas, writing effectively, and using various media to communicate.
Social Skills
Purpose: To help students collaborate effectively and understand different perspectives.
Examples: Working in teams, building relationships, resolving conflicts, and demonstrating empathy.
Self-Management Skills
Purpose: To support students in organizing themselves and managing their time and emotional well-being.
Examples: Goal-setting, time management, organization, emotional regulation, and mindfulness.
Research Skills
Purpose: To enable students to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.
Examples: Formulating research questions, collecting data, analyzing sources, referencing, and ethical use of information.
Thinking Skills
Purpose: To develop students' critical, creative, and reflective thinking abilities.
