The Community Hospice's Wave Riders program is a free weekly support group for grieving families with children or teens, aged 3-17 years old, who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives, including a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. The children/teens learn to “ride the waves of grief” and work towards healing and growth.
Working in small groups facilitated by the professional bereavement staff of Community Hospice, children can recognize and express their feelings in a safe and caring environment, receive guidance and support as they adapt to changes in their lives and families, and build self-esteem by validating the normal feelings of grief.
Children feel less isolated as they meet peers their own age, who also are dealing with a loss, and through expressive art, music, games and discussion, they are able to work toward healing and growth.

Camp Erin Albany is a free, weekend bereavement camp for youth who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Children and teens ages 6 to 17 attend a weekend camp experience that combines grief education and emotional support with fun, traditional camp activities. Led by bereavement professionals and caring volunteers, campers are provided a safe environment to explore their grief, learn essential coping skills, and make friends with peers who are also grieving. There is no cost to families.
Double H Ranch
97 Hidden Valley Road, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846
Double H Ranch offers children, age 6-16 during regular session and ages 17-21 during the alumni session, dealing with critical or life-threatening illnesses the chance to experience the magic of the Adirondacks. The Double H Ranch provides camp experiences that are medically sound, memorable, exciting, fun and empowering.
Each session lasts 6 days and accommodates approximately 126 campers with a camper to staff ratio of 2:1. The fully equipped medical facility is staffed 24 hours a day by onsite doctors and nurses. Our medical facility allows us to provide a physically safe camp experience for all children.
Designed to serve campers (ages 6 – 17) that have a parent or sibling dealing with a life-threatening or chronic illness, and is run in collaboration with The Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital. Campers will participate in camp activities, attend professionally guided support sessions, and meet others who have shared a similar experience.
The goal is to improve the quality of life for children and families in the hospital or medical-based setting by bringing the magic of camp to them! Regular visits are scheduled that will transport a child to a true camp experience in a playroom, at their bedside or at medical community events. The program offers a time of laughter, creativity, hope, friendship, and encouragement to children whose lives are disrupted and fractured by illness. Camp On-The-Go also increases awareness of programming opportunities offered at the Double H Ranch to medical professionals, eligible campers, and their families.
