Sophal's story is one of survival, resilience and transformation. She was born in Phnom Penh during the brutal war that tore apart Cambodia in the 1970s. She was abandoned on the street as a sick and starving infant, until a Swiss Red Cross nurse found her and took her to the hospital. No one claimed her, and the nurse faced a dilemma: leave her in a war-torn country or take her to Switzerland for adoption. She chose the latter, and Sophal was given a new chance at life. She grew up in Switzerland, where she developed a love for design and the arts. She married ND in 1994 and they had two wonderful children.
Sophal did not return to Cambodia until she was in her thirties. In 2012, she and her family visited her birth country for the first time and were captivated by its beauty and culture. They felt a strong connection to the people and a desire to make a difference. In 2013, they sold their home in Switzerland and moved to Cambodia to start a new chapter. They founded a Church to serve the spiritual needs of the community, but they soon realized that more was needed to build meaningful relationships. They envisioned creating a place where children could learn, play and grow. That's how the ICF Campus was born. The ICF Campus is their dream project that provides day care, after school program and sports activities to hundreds of children in the area.
Sophal is an inspiring speaker who has written a book about her journey from being a rescued baby to reconnecting with her roots and bringing hope and empowerment to the youth in Cambodia.
