The essence of behind-the-wheel training lies in its emphasis on practical experience. Teen drivers get behind the wheel, navigate diverse road scenarios, hone their steering control, and develop the crucial ability to make split-second decisions in real time.
Beyond the mechanical aspects of driving, behind-the-wheel training instills a sense of responsibility. Novice drivers learn the importance of adhering to traffic rules, respecting other road users, and embracing a defensive driving mindset that prioritizes safety. A car can feel massive and difficult to handle in the hands of a new driver. Learning the vehicle’s dimensions and how to maneuver it can take time. From understanding vehicle controls to mastering parking techniques, this hands-on experience lays the foundation for safe and effective driving habits.
Students will need to complete six hours of behind-the-wheel driving with one of the school driving instructors. Driving times will be arranged during a student’s physical education period or before/after school. It is advised that students have at least 10 hours of practice driving with their parent(s) before driving with an instructor.
