Senior Leadership Staff
Each year IAWAH hires a core team of individuals, who work to make the busy spring and summer season successful. These individuals take on key leadership roles within a variety of programs and activity areas throughout IAWAH. They are highly motivated, organized, relational people who have an active relationship with Jesus and love children and youth.
In addition to the below expectations, the seasonal leadership team works to contribute positively to an environment where they encourage, build up, and humbly challenge one another to continually grow. As a leader, they will demonstrate discernment and maturity helping to perpetuate safety, efficiency, and fun as we strive to create a place for campers as well as staff from many different walks of life to be able to open up and experience freedom in a life with Christ.
All staff are required to sign IAWAH’s Statement of Faith, Lifestyle Agreement, and Commitment to Team; provide a minimum of 3 acceptable references and background check, including Police Records Check/Vulnerable Persons Sector Check.

Program Coordinator & Spring Team Leader (1 position - 16 Weeks)
16+ Week Commitment
Spring Overview
The Program Coordinator will work alongside the Schools Coordinator to lead the spring staff team. Together they will ensure that each guest group is well taken care of through the training and development of spring staff, group communication, and onsite hosting/MC-ing. The spring work will prepare the program director for summer success. There will also be time dedicated to planning for the summer sessions.
Summer Overview
Each week the Program Coordinator works within the context of a theme to create a camp session that is memorable, fun-filled, and bursting with energy and excitement. In addition to planning and executing amazing evening games, the Program Coordinator are responsible for MC-ing the day’s events.

Summer Expectations

In addition to being able to meet the above expectations, successful candidates will be fun-loving individuals who enjoy entertaining and are comfortable making announcements, being part of opening skits and generally looking ridiculous in front of over 100 campers each week. Successful candidates will be creative, imaginative, and passionate about creating awesome games. The ability to organize resources and supplies and the ability to delegate tasks and give direction are both necessary skills. Past experience in a similar role or extensive experience in camping ministry is required.
YDLP Coordinator (Youth Development Leadership Programs) (1 position - 16 Weeks)
16+ Week Commitment
Overview
The YDLP coordinator is responsible for the overall running of each level of YDLP – RISE, CREW, ROOTs and REACH – which includes pre-camp preparation, YDLP specific staff training, and the development and coordination of each schedule. This person is the main resource for all YDLP staff in matters relating to personal life, general camp experience, and community living. The YDLP Coordinator cares about the holistic health of staff and campers and they work to promote an environment where all feel safe, built-up, and encouraged.
Expectations
Support and supervision of YDLP staff
Ongoing support during the summer
Spiritual support
Develop A mentoring relationship with the staff, scheduling one-on-ones
Pray for and with the staff regularly
Emotional support
Be aware of any issues that staff may be dealing with and support appropriately or seek assistance
Provide guidance (and, if necessary, conflict resolution) in matters related to community living

Available to relieve staff when needed
Make sure time off is being adhered to
Communication and support leading up to the summer, ie. Expectations, prep time for sessions staff will be teaching
Develop each of the YDLP schedules in advance, making sure that all logistics are coordinated between the programs. This includes
Logistical coordination of out-trips
Departure dates
Transportation schedules and drivers (work with camping coordinator)
Coordinate needs (park fees, etc… work with tripping coordinator).
Scheduling time-off for staff
Finding speakers/teachers in advance for training and/or programs
Working with the facility team for any projects/facility work (Crew and Roots)
Working with photography to ensure slide shows for closing daY
Make sure a proportionate number of photos are being taken for YDLP
4. Development of a YDLP manual and information packages
Looking at a progressive curriculum for each level of YDLP
Finding the appropriate resources (books, videos, teaching materials)
Review of all information packages going out and updating
5. Ensure quality of participant experience
Ensure that all participants are supported appropriately providing opportunities for their success in the program
Communicate with parents about any issues that may arise with campers
In addition to being able to meet the above expectations, the successful candidate will be friendly and relatable so that staff feels comfortable approaching them; understanding and compassionate so that staff feels supported when they do approach them; and proactive about problem-solving, brainstorming and following through on the situation in whatever way necessary. Proven experience working with youth and experience in camping ministry are requirements. Previous experience working in a leadership role at IAWAH and previous experience working as a peer leader with students/young adults will be considered an asset.
Aquatics Program Coordinator (1 position - 16 Weeks)
16+ Week Commitment
Prerequisites
NLS (preferably waterfront NLS) with guarding and teaching experience is required. Experience managing and mentoring others is considered an asset.
Overview
Provide leadership and direction to the beach, KFC (Kayak, Fishing, Canoeing) and Ski & Board Program in order to ensure a safe and fun environment.
Expectations
Supervise lifeguards - ensuring proper rotation and vigilance of the team.
Monitor swimmer to guard ratios.
Ensure that the beach area is clean and appropriately stocked, including appropriate care and maintenance of water toys.
Ensure that camper sign-in / sign-out is appropriately supervised.
Oversee and direct waterfront searches (from any waterfront area) in case of an emergency and for training drills.
Provide ongoing training to beach lifeguards with succession planning in mind.
Be available throughout the day and evening when the waterfront is requested for use.
Provide a pre and post-summer inventory of all waterfront equipment.
Kitchen Shift Supervisor (2 position - 16 Weeks)
16+ Week Commitment
Prerequisites
Experience in food preparation, service and area management. Attendance of a Public Health Safe Food Handler Training Seminar will be considered an asset.
Overview
IAWAH seeks an individual with a heart to serve through food service in a Christian Camping experience. This position is ideal for individuals who are interested in and/or have skills in supervision and food service delivery. Under the direction of the Head Cook, the successful candidate will be able to supervise and coordinate a shift of 3-5 kitchen staff serving up to 250 people per meal with multiple seatings. This includes meal prep, meal time delivery, meal clean-up, and kitchen cleaning. Training is provided.
Expectations

Ropes Head (Indoor Climbing, Outdoor Climbing, Low Ropes Course, Team Challenge) (1 position)
16+ Week Commitment
Prerequisites
Minimum Level 1 Challenge Course Practitioner and onsite training required.
Standard First Aid /CPR C.
Overview
Provide leadership and direction for indoor climbing, outdoor climbing, and low ropes course facilitation, and climbing focus campers, in order to ensure a safe and fun learning experience.
Expectations
Provide supervision during all activity periods.
Ensure equipment is present, inventoried, and well maintained.
Follow industry-standard best practices for regular inspection of all equipment as well as for the use of said equipment.
Retire equipment when necessary and request new equipment as needed.
Maintain logs of equipment use.
Safely and quickly execute rescue and emergency procedures when necessary.
Provide ongoing training to staff according to IAWAH’s certification program with succession planning in mind.
Perform a pre and post-summer inventory of all climbing and challenge course equipment.
Grounds Maintenance Supervisor (1 Position)
16+ Week Commitment
Prerequisites
Hardworking and resourceful, the successful candidate must be flexible and willing to learn many new tasks. Training will be provided. Some experience in maintenance or the trades will be considered an asset.
Overview
Facilities staff work under the direction of the Operations Coordinator to complete maintenance and facilities tasks and help with assigned projects. The Facilities assistant works alongside the full-time Facility Staff. Those in this role are required to work an 8 hour day set out by the Operations Coordinator, but are welcome to join us for evening games and assisting in other areas during their free time should they wish. Although this role does not traditionally include as much interaction with campers, it is essential to the successful running of IAWAH’s summer programs.
Expectations
Report directly to Operations Coordinator for task assignments
Follow best safety practices, comply with all safety regulations
Request appropriate training whenever necessary
Be prepared to work physically; many tasks require manual labour and may involve lifting, moving, chopping, hauling, and generally being active
Lead small teams in work projects
Office Assistant -Schools & Summer (1 Position - April 28-Aug. 31 - 16 Consecutive Weeks)
Prerequisites
The successful candidate must have the ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, multitasking, and high learning environment. They must demonstrate the ability plan, organize and execute school guest group experiences. They must have the ability to lead their peers and develop a great staff culture.
Overview
The Office Assistant executes all of the background planning to offer a successful school guest experience. This includes communicating with teachers, before during, and after the event. The coordinator works to train the schools' staff and schedule them appropriately.
Office Assistant - Spring Responsibilities
Serve guest groups by welcoming guests & housekeeping duties.
Plan and execute school year-end trips.
Be open and flexible to changes at short notice.
Enthusiastically teach and lead schools staff.
Facilitate learning experiences and develop teamwork skills within the staff creating an open, safe, and supportive culture.
Office Assistant - Summer Responsibilities
Work to plan fall schools experiences.
Fill the registrar role when the registrar is not on-site
Be the first point of contact for the Campground. This includes emailing, payment processing, and organizing cleaning/maintenance.
Assist other staff, both seasonal and full-time, with office administration duties.
Train the Tuck Shop manager and be the first point of contact for them in the office.

Media Coordinator (1 position) | June 30 to August 24, 2024 | 8 Consecutive Weeks
Prerequisites
Previous and proven skills in photography and/or Videography needed. Experience using photo editing software, video creation software and file management an asset.
Overview
Working in cooperation with the Admin/Registration Team, outside marketing services and the Executive Director - the Summer Camp Media Manager serves to fulfill IAWAH’s communications and marketing goals for the summer season. In particular the Summer Media Manager coordinates the photography, videography and daily social media posting.
Expectations
DAILY
Oversee the daily photo uploads – and manage the sorting and storage of all photo and video assets (Platforms include: SmugMug, Vimeo, Facebook, and Instagram).
Provide overall media quality control and uphold IAWAH’s media and privacy policies.
Facebook and Instagram content development, scheduling, writing and posting. Ensure content is varied, relevant, attractive and on-target with branding themes.
Organize the collection of daily photos and video capture in conjunction with the weekly photographer and other summer staff.
Staying in touch with special events staff and through attending staff meetings to keep current with Admin, Camping and YDLP team developments.
Manage dynamic daily schedules to maximize quality media capture while IAWAH in full session delivery.
WEEKLY
Coordinate the development of weekly slide shows for each session.
Manage the collection and printing of the cabin/group photos for each session.
Coordinate with the Registrar regarding participants for each session – including making sure each camper has photos taken, and also campers with photo restrictions are being excluded from public displays.
Act as a resource and support for the RIVER, PrimeTime and YDLP programs with various media needs as they may arise.
Ensure that YDLP photo and media assets are being collected and stored.
Coordinate with the Camping Coordinator the schedule of contract or volunteer staff photographers during the summer.
Support the social media objectives, overall marketing plan and various campaigns.

IAWAH Christian Ministries is a charitable, year-round ministry based on a 225 acre waterfront property near Westport, Ontario. Prerequisites
Experience working with children and youth/past experience in camping ministry are requirements. Previous experience working in a leadership role at IAWAH and previous experience working as a peer leader with students/young adults is considered an asset.
Overview
Dons will work directly with cabin staff in matters relating to personal life, general camp experience, and community living. They work closely with a specified group of staff throughout the summer to intentionally develop the character and skill of the cabin staff. Dons care about the holistic health of staff and campers and they work alongside the Pastoral Team and the Camping Coordinator to promote an environment where both staff and campers feel safe, built up, and encouraged. Dons may be called on to fill in for sick staff members, help out various resource tasks, and teach up to two activity periods a day.
Senior Camp Don Expectations
1. Support and supervise designated cabin staff by building a personal mentoring relationship.

Junior Camp Don Expectations

Staff Care Pastor (1 position)
Prerequisites
The successful candidate will be a mature adult with experience in youth ministry, pastoral ministry, counseling ministry, or the like. They will be comfortable with relating to teenagers and young adults and addressing difficult issues.
Overview
The main role of the Staff Pastor at IAWAH is to intentionally seek out staff and build relationships by having one on ones, helping to deepen the discipleship of our staff. It also includes overseeing the biblical teaching of our staff and YDLP participants, facilitation of prayer and worship times assisted by the worship team and other staff.
Expectations
1. Build intentional, discipleship relationships with staff.
2. Assist Dons in village bible study preparation.
3. Provide teaching for all-staff bible study.
4. Speak on occasion to the YDLP participants.
5. Be a helpful presence in enforcing expectations and procedures.
6. Report any relevant experiences with staff to Ministries Director.
Worship/Primetime Coordinator (1 position)
Prerequisites
The ability to organize resources and supplies as well as the ability to delegate tasks and give direction are all necessary skills. The ability to play an instrument as well as lead, help, and mentor other musicians are also necessary skills. The ability to plan and lead age-appropriate bible studies is also a necessary skill. Past experience in a similar role or extensive experience in camping ministry is considered an asset.
Overview
Each week the worship leader works to create a multimedia presentation for the campers, develop bible studies/devotionals for the camper and lead the campers in corporate worship. They will also need to create a roster/schedule for the musicians to follow. Within the week the worship leaders will lead practice with the band and lead the children in a time of worship and learning about God through multimedia and bible studies led in the village by the don team. This individual will also be responsible for working with the staff pastor to lead the staff/YDLP River twice weekly.
Expectations
Lead the children in a daily time of worship.
Mentor and lead the staff who want to be a part of the worship team.
Twice a week, work with the staff pastor to create a night of worship for the staff.
Aid with the closing ceremony at the end of each camp session.
Maintain the sound and music equipment as well as the music filing and reporting.
Create a multimedia presentation/bible teaching for each evening & accompanying devotional studies.
Assist in other areas where needed.
RISE Program Leaders (2 Female positions, 2 Male positions)
Overview RISE
RISE is a two week program that introduces campers to our YDLP program. Campers participate in all the usual camp activities but have time each day where they discuss leadership and then plan activities that they will implement with our Jumpstart program. Through this staff will provide spiritual and practical leadership and direction to the RISE campers to ensure a safe, yet challenging environment for personal holistic growth.
Prerequisite
Previous experience in leading and mentoring young teens is also desirable.
Expectations
To be an effective and supportive member of the Summer Camp team
Responsible for leading and supervising a cabin of RISE participants.
Ensuring that the RISE participant are safe mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Using “teachable moments” to talk about servant leadership

Work with campers to develop leadership skills and meet goals.
A successful RISE Staff will effectively communicate with their RISE Team Leader as to what is going on in RISE within the community and daily activities. They will be personable, able to take direction, and able to work in a team effectively.
Tuck Shop Manager (1 position)
Prerequisites
A high level of organizational skills, the ability to work independently, think creatively and effectively handle money and manage inventory.
Overview
The successful applicant will be the primary staff member in the Tuck Shop and will be responsible for the Online Store. During Spring, the Tuck shop manager's primary role will be the setup of the tuck shop, general office duties, and other duties as assigned. During Summer Camp weeks they will oversee camper communications (2-way email) and camper/staff tuck orders. During Campground weeks they will also oversee the bookings, meal orders, and the cleaning for the Campground services. The Tuck Shop Manager must be able to responsibly handle payment, take and prepare tuck orders daily, and be accountable for the cleanliness of the Tuck Shop.
Expectations
Receiving deposits and/or payments from parents, guests, campers and staff.
Organizing accurate individual accounts.
Managing inventory.
Computer skills in developing excel spreadsheets and in using point of sale devices.
Daily organization, filling, and dispensing of tuck bins.
Serving in additional areas of camp daily, as needed (Main office, activity areas, kitchen or program)
Receiving and distributing of camper mail.
Some main office duties will be assigned.
Beach Lifeguard - KFCS Head (kayaking, Fishing, Canoeing, Sup) (1 position - 9 Weeks)
Prerequisites
Bronze Cross and Boating License required. NLS and ORCKA certifications are considered assets.
Overview
Provide leadership and direction to the boating area and classes in order to ensure a safe and fun learning experience. This includes kayaking, fishing, canoeing, and Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP).
Expectations
Supervise storage of the KFCS area at the beginning and end of each lesson.
Ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
Keep the area organized and properly equipped.
Provide supervision during all activity periods to ensure a safe, and fun experience.
Provide initial and ongoing training to KFC with succession planning in mind.
Perform a pre and post-summer inventory of all KFC equipment.
Work with the program director in an assistant capacity for nightly games and activities.
Beach Lifegurad - Head (1 Position - 9 Weeks)
Prerequisites
NLS (preferably waterfront NLS) with guarding and teaching experience is required. Experience managing and mentoring others is considered an asset.
Overview

Prerequisites
Ontario Boating License and NLS required. Experience managing and mentoring others is considered an asset. Experience in ski & board sports is an asset.
Overview
Provide leadership and direction to Ski & Board area and facilitate Ski & Board focus campers in order to ensure a safe and fun learning experience.
Expectations
Coordinate ski staff (boat drivers, spotters, instructors, and dock supervisors).
Provide pre and post-summer inventory of all equipment and make purchase requests, with a designated budget.
Keep the ski shed organized and appropriately stocked and ensure that boars are filled with fuel.
Provide boat maintenance, including oil changes and bi-weekly cleaning of hull and interior.
Provide supervision during all activity periods to ensure a safe and fun experience.
Provide initial and ongoing training to waterski staff with succession planning in mind.
Land Activities Head (Archery, Archery Tag, Sports, Lawn Games, Outdoor Skills, Mountain Biking) (1 position)
Prerequisites
Experience in and knowledge of several traditional sports, modified sports, and wilderness education. Interest in gaining skills in archery, and bicycle repair/maintenance; training will be provided.
Overview
Coordinate the areas of wilderness skills, archery (outdoor archery, indoor archery, & archery tag), turf (lawn games), novelty activities, and sports. Oversee the mountain biking program equipment usage and maintenance.
Expectations
1. Ensure that activity areas are stocked and equipment is in good repair
2. Maintain an inventory of equipment to keep in working order & replace when necessary.
3. Provide ongoing training to land activities staff with succession planning in mind.
4. Ensure that all bikes and accompanying equipment are well maintained
5. Ensure that archery arrows are continually being maintained and repaired.
Arts Activities Head (Arts & Crafts, Cake Baking, Tie-dye) (1 position)
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this position. Experience in planning and facilitating fine arts & crafts, cake baking, and rockets & projectiles as well as experience working with children are considered an asset.
Overview
Provide leadership and direction to the staff within your areas to ensure a safe and fun learning experience for all campers.
Expectations

Ensuring training of staff in the above activities.
Order materials ahead of the season within the constraints of the provided budget.

Ensure program delivery of the above activities runs smoothly and to a high level of proficiency.
Training and mentorship of staff with a mind to developing a future Arts Head.
Responding to the needs of staff within your areas of responsibility in a timely fashion.
Caring for the emotional and spiritual wellbeing and health of all staff that work in your area.
Provide an inventory of your area in writing by the end of the summer to prepare for future seasons.
