Outreach
Outreach
During my time at Iowa State, I have been involved in many outreach activities, ranging from work with grade school students to serving on the Math Graduate Student Organization.
In Fall 2023, I was awarded the Miller Family Excellence in Service and Leadership Award by the Math Department.
The Math Graduate Student Organization (Math GSO) serves as a representative of math graduate students to the department, as well as organizes social and outreach activities for the math graduate body. As the communications officer (2023-2024) and president (2024-2025), I helped organize the following:
Co-EDGE events (irregular meetings where more senior graduate students can provide experience and guidance to younger graduate students about various topics, e.g. life in Ames, choosing an advisor, studying for qualifying exams, etc
Fall social for graduate students, promoting an environment of community in the department
Spring symposium for graduate student research, showcasing the research done by math graduate students in the form of featured talks and posters
Industry career panel (in partnership with Physics GSO), featuring past ISU PhD students working in industry
Weekly department teas, facilitating community and connection between faculty and graduate students
Me (and various ISU grad students) eating lunch at a past symposium

I have helped Dr. Hien Nguyen run Math Circles and various other activities for grade school students. Our goal is to encourage, guide, and provide a welcoming environment for the exploration of mathematics among young students. In the summers of 2022 and 2024, I was funded by Dr. Hien Nguyen to design the lesson plans for Math Circles. I have helped with the following (see CV for a more complete list):
Math Circles for 2-5 grade students
Math Circles for 5-7 grade students
AMC exam coaching for 7-12 grade students
