Our view of the Physical Self comes down to the standards we learn from other sources. It is not uncommon for these standards to come from paintings, photography, or films. Especially if those works are specifically portraying those messages.
Visual arts can be a form of expression for the artist. Over the years, it has been used as a form of expression for one’s sexual orientation. It can also be used as a good medium to educate people about sexuality and gender.
Visual arts have been one of the most common mediums for politics. Juan Luna and his activism through his paintings to Pacita Abad’s legacy of breaking the sex barrier in the industry, to films depicting our country’s history that we should never forget. Visual art is but a medium to express the artists’ intentions and messages, and that could include political views and opinions.
Along with politics, the spiritual self has been one of the most common themes in visual arts. It can be done through something that doesn’t necessarily need to have a physical form be imagined into something that we can see. It shows the part of the soul that went along with the creation of the art.
Globalization’s biggest feat was connecting the nations of the world together, making it easier for countries to share resources and information to each other. This way, one of its biggest contributions to the Visual Arts domain of the Philippines is giving it reach outside of the country. This gave Filipino artists a chance to shine not only nationally, but also internationally. Pacita Abad, as an example, was able to get her international recognition due to globalization.
On the other hand, globalization has also allowed domains from other countries to make its way here. While not being a bad thing in of itself, the threat here could span from the fact that Filipinos would prefer consuming art coming from other nations than the country’s own. The preference of consuming Korean media (K-Pop, K-Drama, etc.) and Western media over Filipino-made visual arts could undermine the importance of it, and our culture in general.
ROLE, RESPONSIBILITIES, and aspired CONTRIBUTION/S as a Filipino citizen.
Artists should be able to tell stories through their artwork and art form about the past and other social issues from the past and the present.
Stories should be able full of learning, and they should be able to open the eyes of some
People are all connected via social media in some way since we live in a global village. People are all "out there in the world," and artists are no longer reclusive hermits.
And artists aspire to connect with other artists and collaborate.
This would be a great opportunity to gain recognition along with the ability to express themselves freely in society. This could also benefit underprivileged Filipinos by having them be recognized as a citizen in need, not just a person with talent. Art is more than lines and shapes. It gives a message we can all share and form opinions on. This would also give awareness that artistry needs higher wages for their time and effort spent on their work.
As also mentioned by the problems stated, promotion and recognition is one of the things the domain ultimately lacks. It is one of the major root problems that prevent it from getting the attention it needs to be supported. Promotion helps the underprivileged Filipinos know that Visual arts is a valid industry that can pay well and an important domain when it comes to the country’s culture.
By giving the said issue recognition. Allowing time for them to build and hone their skills to be able to present them in public as a form of hard work. By this logic, it’s easier to understand something for what it’s worth when you see all the effort and hard work presented to you in full. It is also great if the recognition of the said cultural domain can be promoted and be given more credit. Overall, Promotion and Free access can breed hard work and great results.
Promoting our cultural artworks and artisanal crafts is very crucial in our modern society. Sadly we have neglected our artforms and we consumed the cultural artworks of other countries. Though it’s not too late since most of our art and artisanal crafts are still practiced to this day. They are just not promoted well and the scope of the knowledge of these crafts are very limited.
We can rectify this by promoting our art. Free museum days can help promote our local art. Cheap gallery options can also help our local budding artists promote their art and crafts. Days where artisans sell their arts in high class malls or public places like parks will further promote them. We can also provide workshops and lessons for doing our local art and artisanal crafts to even more promote our artistic heritage.
