House Community

Our school is organised in horizontal year groups and also in vertical Houses. This model was launched in September 2017 after an extensive student voice consultation.

Each of our Houses is named after a Christian value and has its own individual colour:

  • Charity - purple
  • Faith - blue
  • Hope - yellow
  • Mercy - red
  • Peace - green

A student's House identity is displayed by a coloured ribbon sewn above the Holy Cross crest on the school blazer.

LEADERSHIP:

The students are led by a team of Sixth Form Yr13 Heads of House and Yr12 Deputy Heads of House. Within the main school (Yrs7-11) each form is led by its House Captain. This model of leadership opportunity facilitates a sustainable model of student leadership and provides good role model aspiration. We now have a total of 35 House leaders!

Charity Fundraising

One of the roles of the Head of House and the Deputy Head of House is to lead charity fundraising for their House community and to motivate the students in the main school.

We never fail to be impressed by the generosity of our students. Our mission statement directs us to "live life to the full and joyfully share this life with others, especially those who are in anyway disadvantaged."

Fundraising Term 1 2018-19

On Holy Cross Day in September the girls were touched by the thought of other children and young people who would not receive a Christmas present and so they worked together to produce an amazing 160 Christmas gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child, in addition to raising £800.

In October our traditional Harvest collection of over 30 hampers was donated to The Joel Community who work with the homeless in Kingston. The Deputy Heads of House in Y12 organised a very successful "Wear it Pink" Day in support of breast cancer research and raised £200 by asking the girls to wear pink accessories.

In November the school supported Aid to The Church in Need to the tune of £1600 by having a red Mufti Day - it was fantastic to see so much red instead of green and yellow!

Year 7 and 8 are currently working on the "One Good Thing" for the Shooting Star Chase children's hospice. In December at the School Carol Service (Tuesday 18th December at 7pm - don't miss it!) we turn our minds to those people destitute at Christmas without a home or hot meal, and will be asking for people to dig deep for The Joel Community (working with Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness).

The Heads of House (Y13 students) have nominated the following charities as the beneficiaries of House fundraising this year:

Charity - Refugio Orphanage, Portugal (an orphanage for children 0 - 6yrs http://www.refugio.pt/en/about/ )

Faith - Bakhita House Westminster (a safe house for rehabilitation of trafficked women)

Hope - Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness

Mercy - Sisters of the Holy Cross Central India (project to sponsor children to attend school)

Peace - Toilet Twinning - flushing away poverty one toilet at a time (https://www.toilettwinning.org/
