In the Bellmoore's Learning Commons, we believe that the very best learning happens when children are engaged with interesting reading and writing activities and learning in authentic, creative and hands on pursuits. We discover, explore, make and do everyday together and hopefully some of these ideas will allow some of that to happen at home! These learning opportunities are meant to get your child excited about learning at home!

Lesson Focus: How are you feeling? Let's talk about what's happening!
You probably have many different feelings about what is happening right now. Maybe you're feeling sad or scared or worried. Or maybe you're feeling excited to be at home with your families. Many of us have these feelings and all of our feelings are ok.
Listen to some of these stories and talk to someone in your family about how you are feeling.
Brainstorm a list of activities that you can do if you're feeling sad, scared, or worried.
Here are some ideas to change your mood and your mindset. You can:
Go for a walk. While you're on your walk, look for letters and words that you know. Read while you walk!
Sing a song or have a dance party in your kitchen (or do both). Ask a family member to print the lyrics from your favourite song and practice reading them.
Ask a family member for some one-on-one time.
Facetime a friend or someone you miss.
You can practice your reading and writing by sending a text message or emailing someone you love.
Write a letter to one of your teachers (I would LOVE to read a letter from you!), or a friend or family member.
Make a calm down bottle. See the link below and ask a family member to help. Read the step-by-step directions.

Lesson Focus: Celebrating Diversity and Kindness
Wednesday April 8th is International Day of Pink! On this day, let's all wear pink, celebrate our differences and spread kindness.
Think about these questions and share your ideas with your family:
How are you different? How are your friends different? What makes you special? How can you share kindness to others who are different? Can you think of some messages of kindness you can share?
Here is your kindness challenge! Now is a perfect time to sprinkle some kindness in your home and your community. Share an act of kindness for someone in your family. Can you help your dad unload the dishwasher? Can you share something special with your brother or sister? Can you write a special note for your mom? What can you do to spread kindness to your family?
Take your kindness messages outside - use chalk to write your messages of kindness on your driveway and sidewalk so those in your community feel your kindness and know how special they are.
