History of the LLC

The Library Learning Commons is called the "Centennial Library" - it was built in 1967 to celebrate 100 years since Confederation. The clientele has changed drastically but the room itself is still pretty recognizable in these yearbook photos!

The library under construction! Did you know that the door by the library was meant to be the main entrance to the school? The parking lot that you now think of as in front of the school was behind it!

These photos show the new windows being installed, the blackboard and cupboards that were between the Maker Space and AV Studio doors, a view inside with rolls of carpet, the circulation desk, and stacks of shelves waiting to be built.

"The Centennial Committee was organized in 1964 under the direction of Warren Simpson, who has spent much time organizing the committee's activities in the past year. Mr. Bell has also devoted much time and effort. The Student Council donated $1000.00 to the committee to be used for projects. A time capsule was built in the school's technical wing which will be placed in the library. It will contain documents of the Centennial Year and articles written by students concerning school activities. It will be opened one hundred years from now. The new school library, built by the Ancaster School Board as a Centennial project has a Canadiana section purchased by the Centennial Committee. The collection contains records, pictures, books, and old documents."
