Years 7-9

Languages, Literacy and Communication : Ieithoedd, Llythrennedd a Chyfathrebu

The LLC area of learning at Ysgol Bro Gwaun aims to provide children with a window to the world, through which they can access and appreciate their cultural heritage and roots while recognising the interconnectedness of their language and lives with others. We hope the curriculum will lift the children to use their communication skills to raise aspirations in writing and speech and to find joy and appreciation of language and literature.

Year 7

All pupils study 1 big question each term:

How to human beings cope in unfamiliar environments?

This includes talking about themselves (moi).

What do stories tell us about who we are and where we came from?

This includes talking about their family (ma famille)

How do human beings communicate?

This includes recounting past holidays (mes vacances)

All of these 3 big questions deal with language that helps pupils to introduce themselves and understand information or questions that other people have for them. Being able to have this kind of conversation is a great step in speaking a new language and developing communication skills.

Year 8

All pupils study 1 big question / theme each term:

To what extent is our national identity linked to our culture?

This includes talking about where they live (mon endroit)

How are we shaped by our relationships?

This includes talking about communities (ma ville)

Diversity and difference

This includes talking about sporting events and leading healthy lifestyles (les sports et mener une vie saine)

All of these 3 big questions/themes deal with language that helps pupils to talk about their own identity and to compare how this might be similar or different in other countries and cultures.
