Penny For The Guy is when children beg for money, so they can have fireworks.
It started 5th November 1605. We do it to help fund for fireworks.
Halloween became more popular, so the tradition died off. People also didn't like the tradition.
They dressed up a guy with paper and straw and carried them in a wheel barrel and either put it outside a shop or went around the neighbors asking "Penny For The Guy".
The "guy" they make is something called an effigy. An effigy is a puppet that you burn.
The puppet is a copy of Guy Fawkes and they burn him because it is a custom to burn witches and he tried to commit treason.
"The celebration is not to glorify Mr Fawkes, but as a form of continuing punishment." (This information is found from quora.com.)
Then suddenly the Guy leapt up
And screamed in pain, aloud,
The flames engulfed her as she jumped
Into the waiting crowd,
Her father caught her in his arms
Became a blazing torch,
He ran, half stumbled back with her,
Collapsed upon the porch.
They lay, two blackened corpses there
With rockets overhead,
And Catherine Wheels and Jumping Jacks
Went off as they lay dead.
We never celebrate Guy Fawkes,
That day won't go away!
