Priority 3 - To work towards becoming a Rights Respecting School by embedding children’s rights across the curriculum and adopting the KiVa anti-bullying programme to promote respect, equality, and a safe learning environment for all pupils.
Current Context -
We are currently working towards achieving the Bronze Rights Respecting School Award. While some children are aware of children’s rights, many are not yet able to articulate their purpose. To support pupils’ well-being and relationships and sex education (RSE), we implement Jigsaw as a whole-school, progressive programme. In addition, at the end of the last academic year, staff undertook KiVa training. As part of the initial steps towards becoming a KiVa school, we have conducted a pupil questionnaire to further assess learners’ understanding of bullying.
Evidence to support the need for the Priority -
A whole-school audit on emotional health and well-being has been completed. The findings highlighted that learners’ knowledge of the UNCRC was limited, indicating the need for further work to raise awareness and understanding. Additionally, a pupil questionnaire focusing on well-being revealed that some learners felt there was a lack of consistency in the approaches used to manage and resolve conflict.
Areas for Development;
A continuous approach to managing and resolving conflict.
Children's awareness of the UNCRC.
RSE is embedded across the curriculum through a coherent, staged approach.
We will be successful if;
We achieve the Rights Respecting Schools Bronze Award.
KiVa is embedded successfully throughout the school.
Staff deliver structured and sequential lessons when teaching RSE.
