What does Rhos mean?
Rhos means 'moor' or 'moorland' in Welsh.
Rhos Primary is situated in the lovely semi-rural village of Rhos on the edge of the Swansea Valley. The village lies approximately 2 miles above the town of Pontardawe. Our catchment area covers the large estate of Delffordd, and other estates of Maes-y-Cornel, Cae Rhedyn, March Hywel and the areas of Cilybebyll and Gellinudd. The immediate environment is one of farmland, hillsides and valleys.
The school has a large playground and grassed areas. A secure grassed area for Foundation Phase pupils is situated behind the Foundation Phase building.
The school is a partner school to Cwmtawe Community School.
Rhos Primary consists of three buildings:-
The Old School (1908) which has 3 classrooms, Multimedia room and two small workrooms. There is a large shared hall area.
The Lower Building (1976) which houses the kitchen, hall, school offices, staff room, 3 main classroom areas and houses all Foundation Phase children.
There are currently ......pupils on role, with 5 full time classes and an afternoon nursery session.
The school day starts for pupils at 8:50 and ends at 3.20pm, with a morning and lunchtime break.
We are a Rights Respecting School this means that most children are aware of ‘The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child’, or UNCRC.
Rydyn ni'n falch iawn o daith y Gymraeg yn ein hysgol.
We are very proud of our Welsh language journey in our school and work towards the Siarter Iaith awards.
We take pride in our school and our community and help to look after our environment. We have achieved the Green Eco Flag.
In Rhos Primary School, everyone's opinions matter. We have a 'Pupil Voice' council (Llais Yr Ysgol), where representitives from each class participate in school meetings to express their views, share ideas and plan for a better future for the school.
Our Cynefin Project / Ein Prosiect Cynefin
This term the pupils of our school will be taking part in a whole school project on Cynefin (belonging). The pupils will discuss in their classes what 'belonging' means to them. We will look at our local community of Rhos and discuss what we already know and what we want like to find out. Each class will have the opportunity to lead their learning by choosing an element of the community to research. We would like to share our school journey through the class pages below.
