Refugee and Asylum Seeker funding
Powys County Council has allocated funding for some refugee and asylum seeker pupil groups and schools will be contacted directly with their allocated amount. The approach will be to allocate a per child amount to each school.
Schools that have received notification of an allocated grant should use the job code for expenditure for their allocation. Finance, or the Vulnerable Groups team, can give advice on this. All allocated funding will need to be spent over the financial year, before the March deadline.
This funding will give schools flexibility on how and when to provide additional support to pupils. Schools should use this funding to support English as additional language needs, for curriculum support, for well-being support, and for additional intervention and support through staffing, support to parents and pupils with translators, or translation of documents.
Minority Ethnic Grant
For the year 2023/24 Welsh Government has allocated a grant to Powys through the MEGRT. To maximise the benefit for pupils, the LA will be shortly identifying actions and allocations in line with the purposes of the grant and the data review of pupils.
Further information
We do ask that schools complete an annual impact survey so that we can provide a report to Senior management and Welsh Government on the impact of the funding.
