International Languages School

At Ponthir Church in Wales School, we are recognised as a lead multilingual school for international languages.

We currently offer the following languages throughout all age groups:

• Italian

• Urdu

• Spanish

• French

• German

• Japanese

• British Sign Language (BSL)

We aim to introduce the pupils to a broad range of languages throughout their time at the school but with a specific focus on the languages they are likely to continue studying when they move up to their respective secondary schools.

In additional to learning the languages, the pupils explore the cultures underpinned by those languages.

Ponthir CiW School's "Mini-Ekiden" Event 2025

On June 18th 2025, we hosted our very own "mini-Ekiden" event to coincide with the second annual UK Ekiden Event. The pupils explored the roots of Ekiden and its importance to Japanese culture. They also investigated the importance of Ekidens being hosted in the UK and the strong relationship between Wales and Japan in line with the Welsh Government's "Year of Wales-Japan 2025" project.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the relay race and hope to repeat it during this sports day later this year.
