The first section of your numeracy strategy should focus on setting out your aims and objectives to define your approach and aspirations.
Consider starting by stating the purpose of the strategy and the rationale behind it's formation. You may also wish to set an estimated date, i.e. end of the summer term 2025, by when you hope to have achieved the objectives that you will be setting.
You may wish to set between 2 and 5 aims. The aims should be based on your self-evaluation findings, including the personalised assessments data.
Here are some examples of aims that could be used:
Provide rich numeracy related activities that progressively develop the skills of the learners.
Develop consistently high expectations throughout the whole school.
Develop and improve standards in numeracy across the school for all learners.
Establish and maintain consistency of practice including notation, vocabulary and methods.
Develop and embed effective planning methods that allows for the planning of progression in numeracy skills.
Support the professional development of practitioners to allow the effective application of numeracy across the curriculum.
Provide a wide range of numeracy related experiences to all learners.
Provide a broad range of high quality numeracy related experiences that relate to real-life application of skills.
Develop practitioners who are able to take full advantage of opportunities to naturally embed numeracy as a tool to enhance the learning within their subject.
