College and Career Resource Center

The College and Career Resource Center (CCRC) supports the work of the counseling department by providing college and career resources, information sessions, workshops, and classroom activities geared towards college and career exploration. The CCRC has books related to career and college preparation including College Guide Books, SAT and ACT Test Study Guides, Scholarship and Financial Aid Guides, Technical and Trade school information, Industry specific guides, Military brochures, materials for the Job Search (resume/ interview tips), college support books, and more. The CCRC provides relevant and timely electronic resources for post-secondary planning and maintains a Google Classroom accessible to 11th and 12th graders and by request. There is a job board outside the CCRC with student appropriate work opportunities which are also emailed out to students. The College and Career Center Coordinator meets with students in grades 9-12 one-on-one, assists in special events such as Senior Parent Night, HVRHS Career Fair, HVRHS College Fair, and Junior Parent Night, and is the Site Representative for the University of Connecticut Early College Experience (ECE) and the CT State Community College - Northwestern High School Partnership Program (HSPP).


​How do students use this resource?

Ninth Grade: Introduction to the CCRC’s physical location and resources. Software-based Career planning, Resume Writing, early Career and College Exploration during Activity Blocks, Flex Blocks and Study Halls.

Tenth Grade: Refresher and update on CCRC resources. Career and College Exploration during Activity Blocks, Flex Blocks and Study Halls. Personality and career assessment using planning software. Presentation of dual enrollment options for the following academic year.

Eleventh Grade: Refresher and update on CCRC resources. Learn time-table of responsibilities and expectations related to College and Career Planning, Preliminary College Search using established search tools, Resume Writing lesson, Field Trip to NACAC National College Fair in Hartford (when next in person), advertise online opportunities for college exploration (like college fairs), Online and In-person visits in the CCRC from College, Technical School and Military Representatives to the school. Presentation of dual enrollment options for the following academic year. Individual Meetings during Flex Blocks, Activity Blocks, and Study Halls.

Twelfth Grade: Refresher and update on CCRC resources. Online and In-person visits in the CCRC from College, Technical School and Military Representatives to the school. Review time-table of responsibilities and expectations related to College and Career Planning, Individual Meetings during Flex Blocks, Activity Blocks, and Study Halls for assistance with Financial Aid/FAFSA, Common Application, Community College application, developing College List and/or Post-Secondary Plans, Scholarships, Updating and Polishing Resume.
