Our Purpose

The purpose of the Hutto Middle School Cheerleading organization is to support our athletic teams and student body, promote leadership, and create a positive school culture. We value teamwork, responsibility, and integrity, encouraging members to lead by example both on and off campus. Our goals include building strong district relationships and developing students’ physical fitness, discipline, and confidence through conditioning and gymnastics training. Through the development of leadership, cooperation, self-discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship in each individual member, the Hutto Middle School Cheerleading organization shall fulfill its purpose for the benefit of the school, its students and the Hutto community.

Rules and Regulations

As a member of HMS Cheer you must abide by all of the rules and regulations beginning on the date you successfully make the team. Membership on the team does not automatically qualify the member to cheer with the team in every performance. Each girl will tryout for competition team placement and event performance. To qualify to cheer with the team, each member must have mastered the choreography and perform it with perfected cheer technique.

Standards

Members of the HMS Cheer team represent their school and HISD at all times and must abide by the HISD Code of Conduct both on and off campus.. They must act as role models and leaders at school and in the community. Members will demonstrate good sportsmanship, promote school spirit and display genuine concern for others.

Membership

Any student may request a try-out application from the Coach during the announced sign-up period. Cheer tryouts will be held in the spring semester of the school year. Must be enrolled at a HISD campus, provide transfer information, or declare the intention to transfer in order to tryout for the current year.

Tryouts

Incoming 6th-8th grade students may tryout for the team in the Spring. Tryouts include running tumbling, standing tumbling, jumps, chant, and band chant. The students will be selected by a group of judges. Current coaches sit on the judging panel. Cheer candidates will be evaluated on a point system. Each component is assigned a point value. The maximum point value assigned is considered excellent and the minimum point value assigned is considered below expectations. Points will be used to compare and rank candidates against one another to gain an overall impression. Decisions are NOT based purely on points, as coaches will make the final determination on who makes each team.
