Established in 2006 by Dr. Debbie Reese of Nambé Pueblo, American Indians in Children's Literature (AICL) provides critical analysis of Indigenous peoples in children's and young adult books. Dr. Jean Mendoza joined AICL as a co-editor in 2016 

Our mission is to preserve the richness of the many cultures in the field of children’s and young adult literature. Further, our mission is to provide children, teachers, parents, educators, students, and librarians access to multicultural children’s books with high literary and artistic standards. 

Brings together key stakeholders from the areas of libraries, education, research, out of school time, youth development and more to develop and deliver resources to libraries that expand their capacity to support teen learning and enrichment and to foster healthy communities.  

The focus is on books that address people’s history, including stories of African Americans, Latinx, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, labor activists, international populations, and women. In addition to representation and untold histories, books are reviewed for their literature and illustrations.

The lists are constantly updated and new lists added.

 (CCBC) is a unique examination, study and research library of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The CCBC’s non-circulating collections include current, retrospective and historical books published for children and young adults.
