Message from Mr Etheridge - Primary Principal

End of Module 1

Unbelievably we have reached the end of module 1 of the academic year and there has been so much incredible learning, progress and development which has taken place over the past seven weeks.

Through discussions with pupils, it is so clear that they have grown in confidence, knowledge and curiosity and I am sure you agree through engaging with the parental book looks and opportunities to visit the school for the termly parental engagement events, that the way in which our pupils can talk about their learning so confidently is so heartening.

Having seen the planning for next module, I know that there will be many more interesting and inspiring activities and lessons and I would encourage you to look at the digital floorbooks and Google Classroom to spark discussion with your children about what they have been learning.

Reading and Golden Tokens

This module, children who have been reading 5 or more times per week (where this has been recorded in their link book by parents and carers) have been entered into a class-based draw. The winner from the class-based draw gets to go onto the 'Golden Token' wheel in celebration assembly; if their name is chosen they receive a golden token to use in the book vending machine in the main entrance hall.

Last week our winner was Harleigh in year three and this week Oliver from year 4 was the winner!

Reading is such an important skill and unlocks the rest of the curriculum so please do encourage your child to read as frequently as possible at home and don't forget to record those home reads so they have a chance to win the Golden Token each week!

Harvest Festival Donations

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the school community for the care and compassion which has been shown with regards to donations as part of our Harvest Festival. We spoke to the children about the history of the harvest festival and how this is a time that we show how thankful we are for the food we have to eat. Over the years this has evolved into a celebration which truly, positively impacts on the lives of those who are less fortunate in our local community.

We collected a lot of food which I know Medway Food Bank are incredibly grateful for and this really does show that together we are stronger than the sum of our parts. Thank you.

Hoo Parish Council Christmas Lights and Event in Hoo

Hoo Parish Council events team are organising an event in Hoo at 6pm on Friday 8th December 2023, with a tree and light switch on at 6.30pm.

They hope to have a small parade of children with lanterns (home made), battery candles or battery operated lanterns at 6pm (no naked flames).

The Parish Council will meet at 5.50pm at the side of the bakery in the village to process around the centre, around the green.

The Parish Council will have entertainment, bell ringers and a singer and Santa has had his flight path cleared so will arrive around 6pm. He will be happy to chat to the children and is looking forward to meeting them. The Parish Council hope to have refreshments available, the weather forecasters have been spoken to and they assure me that we will expect snow around 6.15pm.

Children are welcome to come with their parents to the event in nativity costumes if they wish.
