Our Teachers

Megan McQueen,

Owner, Administrator, Elementary Teacher

Megan graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Specializing in Child Development, Megan was one of 4 students chosen to work at the unique Residential Family Treatment Facility at Algonquin Hospital in Sudbury Ontario.

After graduating from University Megan worked as a Behavioural Therapist at Oakdale Child Services in Barrie.  There, she could use her child development knowledge as well as her nurturing and patience to assist children with physical, mental and learning challenges through daily activities, therapy, and education.

Always drawn to health and physical activity, Megan pursued a career in the health and wellness industry.  She became certified in Personal Training, Nutritional Consulting and Pre/Post Natal Fitness Training, operating own wellness coaching business. Megan was a writer for the “Ask the Expert” column of Peak FM Radio, and was a frequent guest on the Rogers’ Daytime television show.  She wrote many articles on the subject of health and fitness for the Enterprise Bulletin as well as the Collingwood Connection.

Megan became a Certified Montessori Casa Teacher in 2007 through the North American Montessori Centre and obtained her lower elementary certification through the same organization in 2013. She completed her practicum under the guidance of an AMS-certified casa teacher. She co-taught the Casa class at Clearview Montessori School for two years, and also developed the curriculum for CMS’s Health and Life Skills class (ages 3 to 10).  It was here that Megan was able to combine her two passions: teaching young children and health and wellness.

Megan spent 9 years as Vice Principal, alongside her sister Sherri Jackson, building Hummingbird Montessori School into the wonderful school community that it is today.  In 2018, she took over as the Owner and Administrator, where she happily continues her own "joyful learning."

Denise Wood has been committed to Montessori education since 2000, as a 3-6 Casa teacher, head directress and mentor/trainer of teacher candidates.

The very principles, practices and ideals central to the Montessori classroom support her philosophy to look for the best in children and to help them however is necessary to reach their fullest potential.

Denise took her Montessori training with the Center for Montessori Teacher Education in New York  which is AMS affiliated and MACTE accredited.

Denise was our supply teacher in 2010 and 2011 before becoming our full-time casa teacher in 2012. She has been the cornerstone of our casa program for the past 10 years.
