The Caldecott Medal is awarded each year to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. The award was named in honor of nineteenth century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. How does the reading challenge look at FCE?
The "Caldecott Kids" reading program at Fall Creek Elementary is for students in Kindergarten through Second Grade. The purpose of the program is to encourage children to read award winning books and appreciate different kinds of literature.
In order to become "crowned" a Caldecott Kid, each student must read 25 Caldecott winners. The books may either be the Award winners or the Honor winners.
Students must keep a reading log of the award winning Caldecott books read or that have been read to them by a parent or teacher. After 25 Caldecott winners have been read, students will turn in their log to Ms. Andrew in the Fall Creek Elementary Library.
We will "crown" students as a "Caldecott" Kid and they will receive a special crown as well as have their picture taken to be shared through campus social media.
