OMEd (2014a)
This is one of the pedagogical documents that I have consulted the most during my two years of study in the ECE program. It is a great learning guide that inspires me to reflect on my previous plans and my curriculum extension in practice while considering the relationships between myself as an ECE student and the children, families, and colleagues that I'm working with during my placements. From my perspective, it is a professional learning guide that every ECE, caregiver, or family member should spend some time reading, reflecting on, and discussing. Through four fundamental foundations of learning, this pedagogical document supports my plans while viewing the environment as "a third teacher" and developing my vision and position as an ECE.
This document was establish by the College of ECE with the aim to inform and regulate RECEs in Ontario about (1) registration requirements, (2) ethical and professional expectations, (3) prerequisites for continuous professional learning, (4) a complaints and discipline process for professional misconduct or incompetence, and (5) a health and wellness to practise process for issues of incapacity (CECE, 2017). Through seven Standards of Practice, the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice outlines the professional knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and expectations that I must adhere to in practice (regardless of role and settings). As a soon-to-be professional educator, I've used this document to reflect on how my education and training in the early childhood education programme impacts my decision-making and how I may support the practise of other RECEs and encourage higher early childhood education.
CECE (2017)
CYFSA (2017)
Being established by Ontario's Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA), this document raise the awareness and inform all the professionals shares the responsibilities to protect children from harm in both childcare and home settings. As an ECE student and soon to be an RECE, it's essential for me to recognize and learn about those responsibilities and my "Duty of report." I've studied this document since the first semester when I discussed and learned about child maltreatment. Through this brochure, I've explored and recognized types of child maltreatment (including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, neglect, and risk of harm), the ECE's role in the prevention, and maintaining connections with families. By spending my time researching for it, I'm able to learn, explore, and apply strategies and knowledge that I learned during the course to prevent and manage the risk while considering children's safety and well-being.
