“Home of the Spartans”. These four green words invite students and staff into the building each day. These four words will remain on our building for years and years to come. These four green words help give Steinert a purpose. School is there for the intention of educating students and preparing them for the real world. But STEINERT is there to give students an inviting space with many opportunities that will prepare them for their future. In order to assure that our school is fulfilling its purpose, renovations and changes are made each year. From a fresh coat of paint to a completely new field, Steinert has recently made many upgrades that when put together, help make our school complete.
Sometimes sitting in class it can feel like you are watching paint dry. But have you ever really thought about the paint? No seriously, have you noticed all the freshly coated halls as you walk around the building? That's something small that you may have seen but had not given much thought to. Now as you walk past the gym you are greeted with sleek white and green walls. In Principal Rogers words, the school is starting to look “seamless”, and much more inviting for everyone. He added, "In the future we hope to be able to have more of a student impact on the school's interior. Whether this means hanging up signs, or writing quotes around the building, each year there will be new changes to come."
One of the biggest differences this year is the new security system. Although at first this seemed like a very significant thing, students and staff have already easily made this a part of their morning routines. Principal Rogers explains how there “have really been no delays”, or huge issues so far. “Each morning students already know what to do, and already walk in with their laptops in hand”. This new security system has very quickly been picked up by everyone and will continue to be a part of our school for years to come.
The thing that most people are pleased about is that our cafeteria is now a comfortable room to sit in. By installing a new air conditioning unit in the cafeteria, students and staff are now able to escape the heat and have a break from the crowded hallways. For the future, there may even be some district renovations to their high school auditoriums. But for now this upgrade has been favored and appreciated by many all around the building.
Let's make our way to the outside of Steinert. The famous spartan head now sits boldly on the center of our new turf. Hamilton Township has recently purchased new fields for each of the high schools in the district. This was a very big and time consuming project, but overall it has served our schools well. Here at Steinert, our new turf has been used for many sports such as; field hockey, lacrosse, football, and soccer. The turf has also allowed sports to become more flexible and play when it's raining, or in other specific weather conditions. According to Mr.Rogers, this new development has helped to give students and staff many more athletic opportunities, and a space for many of the school's seasonal events.
Each year our school gets a new class of students, and says goodbye to its graduating class. But no matter when you leave this school, you will always be a “Spartan”. In 10 years, you may come back to Steinert and see that the school is different from when you were inside of it. But even though it may look different, the school will still feel the same because it helped you to change and grow for your future. Principal Rogers, a former Steinert alumni, is a perfect example of how change is what brings people back. He remarks that Steinert is a place that “people want to come to, and stay at”. The purpose of all these renovations is to give students opportunities that make them want to come to school, and that will make them want to stay there.
