The Hamilton Hockey team is a tri-op ice hockey team with players from Steinert, Nottingham and West, that did not receive the true recognition it deserved until quite recently. Each and every player on this team has undoubtedly proved themselves in order to ensure the chemistry on the ice. Although, it is apparent to almost everyone that there is one MVP who holds this team together: senior Troy Callahan.
After making the varsity hockey team his freshman year, it has only gotten better in terms of his pursuit of excellence and his performance. He backed up the previous Steinert goalie, Trevor Malik, for his first two seasons with Steinert, but was ready to step up during the 2021-2022 season. Callahan played all but two games last season and aided the Hamilton tri-op to a 6-13 record after it went winless the previous season. But they haven’t failed to come back even stronger, “It’s been good this year. We’re having a better season than last year so that’s something to be proud of. Also the team’s chemistry is stronger than it has been any other year which makes everything more fun”, Callahan said. Not only does the team have a record of 7-5-2, but it seems as though the team chemistry has led to the rink becoming electric for the boys.
Callahan plays as though he was born on the ice and he just about was, “I started playing when I was around 5. I played at Ice Land and Pro Skate when I was learning. Then, I went to Princeton Youth Tigers and have played with them up until now”. With just about 12 years of experience, one wouldn’t expect anything less than the invigorating atmosphere he has been crafting on the ice his past 4 years at Steinert. Callahan is currently committed to Cabrini University for lacrosse and doesn't plan on continuing his hockey career at the college level, but does not wish to let go of the sport altogether. “I may play some men’s league here and there but I probably won’t be playing competitively”, he explains. Callahan has most definitely proven himself to be one of the most dynamic athletes to come through Steinert and his future will be greatly anticipated.
