This year, Steinert Girls Basketball has been on its A game throughout the 2022-2023 season. Stand out player, Senior Ashley Adamson, has been a huge factor during these games due to her determination, drive and inspiring persistence.
“I’ve played many different sports.” Adamson said. She has played sports her whole life. In fifth grade, she was invited to go to the Steinert Girls Basketball Camp with her friend, beginning her journey on the courts. Around her sixth grade year, Adamson realized that she was good at it. “I joined a travel team and kept playing.” She played PAL and her basketball career took off from there.
Last year, after only two games into the season, Adamson suffered a severe season ending knee injury. To her, the hardest thing about this was the mental part. “I went to all of my travel teams' games and practices and had to sit there and watch everyone do everything that I couldn’t.” From her sitting on the sidelines, it showed her how she could “help off the court and encourage the teammates and to make sure that everyone was having a great time.” However, this year she has come back with a new perspective and works even harder than she did before. During winter break, the team played in The Burlington Township Holiday Tournament, and Adamson led the team to victory, and took home tournament MVP honors.
Currently, Ashley is leading the CVC in three point shots made. This was something that she had to work extra hard on. At first, she was not a shooter, but trained and practiced toward it. “I go to multiple trainings. I still go to multiple shooting drills and training places to get better.” When she shoots threes, her favorite spot is “anywhere up top because they don’t expect you to shoot as soon as you come down the floor.”
Ashley has committed to Elizabethtown College, where she will continue her basketball career. Ashley has always shown her commitment through the sports that she has played, which furthers into her education. Elizabethtown College has a six year program for occupational therapy, and she has earned a scholarship for all of those years.
Through academics and athletics, Ashley Adamson’s hard work has paid off, and it is clear that she will continue to excel throughout the rest of this season and into her college career.
