One of the most anticipated events of the season, The Homecoming Dance, brought our Steinert community together in a way we have so tenderly missed. With our school’s inability to host this event since 2019, the unbelievable attendance should have been expected. With a total of over 800 students, the energy in the room was absolutely incredible to feel after such a hiatus on the event. Being one of the first events including the entire student body, it was absolutely fascinating to see the vast range of students all coming together to have a lively evening.
Walking through the hallways as students, we are very closed off to our acknowledgement of our peers beyond what we know. The Homecoming Dance was an excellent opportunity to put into perspective what the community of Steinert truly looks like. Being the Sophomore and Junior classes’ first school dance, it was incredibly joyful to see the memories being made in real time. Mrs. Caruso worked tirelessly to craft this event into absolute perfection, from the decorations to the music, the entirety of the event was completely perfect in order to provide the students with a beautiful night. After hours of dancing, the introduction of the Homecoming Court commenced, allowing for each couple to be supported by their peers.
The tradition of Homecoming is one that is more than just a school dance and football game. It is an opportunity in which the entire Steinert community can connect on a level beyond academics. This dance was needed more than ever after the isolation of the past two years. So many positive changes have been made within our school this year so far and I am eager for the continuous positive outcome. The necessity of the Homecoming Dance is apparent through the unity it creates. As a community we value each other’s company and the solidity we withhold at Steinert is only strengthened by these beloved events.
The next day at the Homecoming Football Game, the fun continued. Each of the classes presented their class banner at halftime and then the Homecoming Court was introduced. This year’s King and Queen were Ruby Crowell and Greg Casimir. The other members of the court were Allesia Amato, Ryan Toleno, Ava Bentley, Jack Lambert, Hasn Nafai, Andrew Shorey, Jillian Jones, Gab Abousu, Kat Kusnirik, Francesca Peroni, Matthew James, and Rylee Quinn. The huge crowd in attendance was then treated to a halftime performance from the award-winning Steinert Marching Unit. Despite the hard-fought 13-6 loss by the football team, it was an overall fantastic day. All of the students, staff, players and alumni and other members of the school community were treated to an overall fantastic Homecoming weekend, unlike any that his senior class has seen in three years.
