Abagail Bochiaro and Peter Bochiaro
The Spartan Sentinel, advised by Mr. Sinkleris, has unveiled a new social media component to the newspaper in order to provide a great place to receive information on anything Steinert related. The instagram “thespartansent” and twitter “@SpartanSentinel” accounts provide updates on sports scores, club meetings, and Steinert events. The Instagram account has over 600 followers and has posted 120 times since the start of the school year. If you would like to post any information regarding upcoming events, feel free to reach out to one of the editors: Sadie Pattik, Grace Pinder, Fadi Farag, and James Torrillo, the new graphics designer. You also can email Mr. Sinkeris directly at asinkleris@htsdnj.org.
The newspaper itself is going paperless and will only be presented in digital format this year. Advisor, Mr. Sinkleris, commented on the reason for the change. “By presenting the paper in the digital format, we hope to reach many more students and families than we ever had before. Our new principal, Mr. Rogers, met with us over the summer, and wanted the paper to be sent out to the entire school community in digital format, so that they had access to all of the good things we are doing in our school community. I think it’s a great idea and it certainly will be preparing the editors and students on the staff for what the world of journalism has become.”
The digital edition will still have student favorites such as movie and book reviews, horoscopes, editorials, and comics. The big difference is that it will be updated weekly, providing readers with a more current look at what is happening at Steinert. The Spartan Sentinel hopes to become a vital resource for all Steinert information!
Freshman Peter Bochiaro, new to the building, wrote a story regarding how much of an impact the new social media aspect of the newspaper has had on him:
“Since I came to Steinert the Twitter and Instagram account SpartanSentinel has helped me out a lot. These social media accounts help me learn about when club meetings take place, updates and scores on sporting events, and when competitions and school events happen. For example, when I wanted to attend the boys basketball interest meeting the SpartanSentinel Twitter account helped me know when and where it was. Or when I miss a Varsity football game, the SpartanSentinel Twitter account told me who won, as well as the score. The SpartanSentinel social media accounts help keep all students updated, especially freshmen who are new to the school.”
