One of the largest concerns that students have when deciding to reach out for help is "Is someone going to find out what I'm going through?" For students, this can apply to family, teachers or even friends. Information provided to the Student Assistance Counselors is confidential, unless directly indicated by the student. This confidentiality is legally protected by Federal Regulation 42-CFR and can only be broken in the case of harm to the student or another as listed below.
Three exceptions to confidentiality:
Individual plans to hurt themselves
Individual plans to hurt someone else
Individual is being hurt by someone else
