Readers' Workshop

During Reader's Workshop the students learn and practice different reading strategies as they build their reading stamina.

What does Readers' Workshop look like?

We start Readers' Workshop with a Mini Lesson where we learn and practice reading strategies. Students then practice IDR (Independent Daily Reading) and partner reading. During this time the teacher works with small guided reading or strategies groups and conferences with individuals. The Workshop ends with a sharing time, where students can share the strategies they used during IDR.

Readers' Workshop Units: Building Good Reading Habits, Word Detectives, Learning About the World, Readers Have Big Jobs to Do, Meeting Characters and Learning Lessons, and Reading and Role Playing: Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, Fables and Fantasy .
