Nicholas Clipperton started his teaching career in 2013 and has been the Associate Director of Bands at Hillsborough High School ever since. Mr. Clipperton earned his Bachelor of Music in Percussion degree with an emphasis in conducting from The College of New Jersey. While at The College, Mr. Clipperton privately studied conducting and score study with Professor Roger McKinney. Mr. Clipperton studied Percussion with William Trigg at the College of New Jersey.
Mr. Clipperton is the Principal Percussionist of the Eastern Wind Symphony. In addition to performing with the Eastern Wind Symphony, he also regularly subs for the Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta Nova.
During his tenure in the Hillsborough school district, Mr. Clipperton’s concert ensembles have received numerous Superior & Excellent ratings for their performances. In addition to working with all the curricular ensembles at Hillsborough High School, he is also the Music Theory and Music Technology instructor and serves as the Chapter Faculty Advisor of the Hillsborough High School Tri-M Music Honor Society. Mr. Clipperton very much looks forward to further developing the level of musicianship and performance in all members of the Hillsborough High School Band Department.
Julie Haran started her teaching career in 1990 & has been the Director of Bands at Hillsborough High School since 2000. Prior to her appointment at Hillsborough, Mrs. Haran taught at Dunellen High School and Cherry Hill High School West in New Jersey. Mrs. Haran received her BA in Music & MA in Conducting from The College of New Jersey, formerly Trenton State College.
In addition, Mrs. Haran is the Personnel Manager and a member of the Horn Section of the Eastern Wind Symphony. She has also toured Europe with the All American Youth in Concert (AAYC).
Julie resides in New Egypt, NJ with Eddie, her husband of 28 years, and their nine-year-old daughter ,Gracie.

Ashley Mathews, M.A. serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Hillsborough High School, conducting the select Treble Chorale, select Mixed Chorale, 30-voice Concert Choir. In addition to the curricular program, Mathews founded the 30 member extracurricular ensemble, Cardinal Voices, and the 12-voice select Chamber Ensemble. Under her direction, her choirs have been noted to possess, "a rich, mature and vibrant sound" and "impressive maturity in their presence both vocally and visually”.
Her ensembles have placed consistently in Superior and Gold ratings at festivals and choral competitions throughout the country and her students have consistently received individual recognition at the Region and All-State levels.
Aside from choral singing and conducting, Mrs. Mathews has been a featured soloist and vocal percussionist on five studio albums as well as compilation albums for the Best of Collegiate A Cappella, Voices Only and Voices Only Forte. She has had the opportunity to perform for the Massachusetts Congress, NYC Pride Parade and at Carnegie Hall. Her expertise as both a member and director in competitive a cappella is in demand as a clinician, choreographer and adjudicator in the high school and collegiate a cappella communities. Mathews holds a Bachelor's Degree in Choral Music Education from the University of Delaware and a Masters degree, summa cum laude, in Music Education with a Conducting Concentration from Montclair State University. She intends to pursue her doctorate in Music Education at Teachers College of Columbia next summer. Her professional memberships include the American Choral Directors Association, New Jersey Music Educators Association, and Central New Jersey Music Educators Association.
In her spare time, she serves as the Musical Director for the Hillsborough Theater Department as well as the Associate Director of Music for the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township. Mathews currently resides in Morristown, NJ with her husband and their golden retriever, Buddy.
Sarah Mederos has been teaching Orchestra at Hillsborough High School since 2008. She received her Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University with a concentration in Stringed Instrument Music Education and has earned graduate course credits in Music Education through Rutgers University. She is active in the string education community and served as President of the NJ chapter of the American String Teacher's Association from 2016-2018. Additionally, Mrs. Mederos maintains a private violin and viola studio outside of school and has prepared students to perform in venues such as Carnagie Hall and the Sydney Opera House. She currently lives in Readington Township, NJ with her husband Rob, her daughter Avacyn, and her dog Lilly.
Nicky Malone joined the Hillsborough High School theater program in the 2021-2022 school year. Mrs. Malone started directing in middle school and carried her passion to college where she completed the theatre program at Rider University.
“I’ve written my own musicals, I’ve written my own plays, I’ve directed throughout the community,” Malone said. “I’ve done work over at Music Mountain Theatre in Lambertville, Somerset Valley Playhouse, and Villager’s Theatre.”
Mrs. Malone has been active in all aspects of play production, having experience as a light and sound designer, and as a costumer, lending a hand behind and on the stage. Although her heart is embedded in drama, Malone is certified to teach many other subjects, including public speaking, English, and leadership.
After earning her BA in Music Education from The College of New Jersey, Ciji Coates started her teaching career in Hillsborough teaching elementary music. Currently, she is one of the band directors at the middle school and has been teaching 7th and 8th grade band, jazz ensemble, pit orchestra, and marching band since 2006. Most recently, Ciji earned her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership: Instruction at The College of New Jersey in 2017. Ciji enjoys participating in many other musical endeavors both in and outside of school, including performing in The Eastern Wind Symphony, performing in various musicals, and maintaining an active private lesson studio for clarinet students. Ciji is also involved on the state level through the Central Jersey Music Educator's Association and organizes the Elementary Honors Band Day with over 350 elementary band students. Ciji currently resides in Hillsborough with her husband Tom and their dog, Gus.
