Abstract:
The large majority of the existing knowledge reviews the effects of the learning environment on student learning, and examines the consequences of distractions, motivation, and distance learning. This study focuses on how the change in learning environment, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has affected students’ grades and mental health. A survey was the chosen method of data collection, and was distributed to high school students in western Pennsylvania. Those learning in three different environments were surveyed, and displayed similar, as well as distinctive results when each environment was compared to one another. Analysis of the findings shows the connections between the existing literature and the results of the survey. Limitations such as grade level rigor may be considered. Students unanimously say that in-person instruction is most effective for fostering motivation and limiting distractions--leading to better grades.
