Bad Bunny and Public Awareness of Puerto Rican Migraiton
Abstract: Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny frequently addresses themes in his music that connect to Puerto Rican mass migration. Existing literature has pursued standalone analyses into his music, but not how his music correlates with differences in the general public. Many young adults in the United States have been exposed to Bad Bunny’s music; this study sought to quantify how that exposure correlated to awareness of Puerto Rican migration. Participants in this study took a survey that analyzed Bad Bunny listening habits, as well as their awareness of select key themes surrounding Puerto Rican migration. Several inferential statistics were conducted and ultimately determined that there was a positive correlation between listening to Bad Bunny and awareness scoring, yet future research is needed to determine the exact cause of this correlation. Note that this study’s data was collected entirely before the airing of the Super Bowl LX Bad Bunny halftime show, and therefore this study was unable to consider its implications.
